An Icon of our time: stylish development nears completion

Situated in the picturesque town of Coventry, Icon is an attractive development of one, two and three-bedroom homes that have been constructed by Barratt & David Wilson Homes.

The development lies just three miles from the city centre and offers easy access to the UK motorway network and regular main line rail services to Birmingham and London, with Birmingham International Airport just a short drive away. Other benefits include the West Orchards, Lower Precinct, GreyFriars Walk and Smithford Way shopping centres and the popular Kenilworth Castle.

Work began onsite in January 2011 and included the demolition of old factory units on the site. Local suppliers and materials – including block, bricks and roof tiles – have been used where possible, whilst a percentage of the homes have been built to Code Level 3 and include Secured by Design doors.

Ricki Hughes, Site Manager for Barratt & David Wilson Homes, commented:

“The main challenge has been trying out different house types and designs, seeing how they work, and incorporating that onsite. The build has gone well and sales have been excellent so far.

“I am delighted to have won another NHBC Award. Last year I won a Seal of Excellence Award and a Pride in the Job Award, and so far this year I’ve won a Pride in the Job Award and have been put forward for a Seal of Excellence Award and a regional award – but I won’t find out if I’ve won until October.

“It is fantastic to receive recognition for my work, and to be recognised not just by Barratt & David Wilson Homes, but by the NHBC as one of the leading site managers. It’s a good thing to have on your CV, and it also instills a sense of personal pride.

“This has been an excellent development to work on; the subcontractors have been brilliant, and there is an excellent rapport onsite. Whilst the guys come here to earn money, by working together harmoniously we can make everyone’s lives a little easier.”
