The luxurious JW Marriott Absheron Hotel has opened in Baku.
JW Marriott Absheron is a 23-storey hotel housed within a stunning mixed-use development. The Pasha Inshaat developed building comprises 16 floors of private residences and serviced apartments, a number of retail and office spaces, and the new hotel. A single level basement car park is also located below the building.
The external face of the impressive new building is approximately 50% glass, which has been coated and triple glazed for energy efficiency. Perforated trusses were introduced at podium level of the building to stabilise the fascia against Baku’s high winds. The perfect balance of horizontal and vertical elements in the building’s design creates a unique rhythm to the structure, whilst cast stone panels and frameless glazed elements create simplicity to the building’s appearance.
Features of JW Marriott Absheron include 243 large guestrooms and suites – ranging upwards of 40 sq meters – and a rooftop pool hall and spa as well as a 1200 sq metre pillar-less ballroom which provides the perfect venue for weddings.
A variety of guest rooms are on offer at the hotel, from executive premier rooms, to deluxe king rooms and presidential suites. All of the rooms at JW Marriott Absheron include a spacious desk, laptop safe, luxurious bedding, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and a mini-bar.
The hotel also includes a reception and concierge on ground level as wells as restaurants on the first floor which benefit from uninterrupted views of the Caspian Sea. The restaurants include the Fireworks Oriental Kitchen serving Asian cuisine, OroNero Bar & Ristorante offering up Italian delights, Razzmatazz Cocktail Bar & Lounge and Zest Lifestyle Cafe.
During the day Razzmatazz Cocktail Bar & Lounge will serve traditional teas as well as coffees and snacks, whilst during the evening the bar will offer up a delicious array of cocktails. Zest Lifestyle Cafe meanwhile comprises a mix of shopping, tasting and meeting space and is a brand new lifestyle concept for Baku.
Additional features of JW Marriott Absheron include a barber/beauty shop, a florist, a game room, on-site laundry facilities, valet dry-cleaning and a gift/newsstand. 24-hour room service is also in operation at the hotel.
The new building also incorporates a landscaped area which was designed to create an oasis-style environment within the site. The outdoor area provides a tiered seating space where guests can watch festivals and events that take place within the nearby Azadliq Square. Meanwhile public areas have been designed to seamlessly link together lobbies, pre-function areas and the restaurants and bars.
As the brand new building is situated adjacent to Government House and overlooks Azadliq Square, the design brief called for a prominent landmark that could perfectly sit alongside the existing square. A principle objective was also to provide one of the most sought-after food and beverage offerings in the city, which has certainly been achieved.
In order to construct the new hotel, the previous Absheron Hotel was demolished so that the new building could be constructed on the approximate footprint as the former structure.
German-based construction company Strabag AG was the main contractor on JW Marriott Absheron Hotel, whilst ReardonSmith Architects provided architectural services on the project.
