Bo London

Bo London- Mill Street, Mayfair- Chinese restaurant

Alvin Yeung has launched Bo London, right in the heart of the city.

Bo London, located in Mayfair, introduces Alvin’s signature cooking style, ‘X-treme Chinese’ to London, playing with ingredients and techniques with immeasurable precision.

Hoping to revolutionise Chinese gastronomy in London, Alvin combines centuries old recipes with modern cooking methods.

Alvin said:

“London has this unique energy and just feels different from any other city I’ve been to. It has a wonderful rich history of tradition, ceremony and craftsmanship and as long as that is respected, there is also a celebration of innovation and modernism.

“It seems to filter into every corner- whether it’s design, fashion, music, visual art or even its dynamic food scene. I’m really looking forward to becoming part of it.”

The main dining area at Bo London seats 32 guests and the ground floor interior accommodates ten guests in an entrance bar, which opens with lunch service and serves selected dim sum throughout the day.

The designs for the interior began in May 2012 and the project began on site in August. Bo London officially opened on Thursday 6th December 2012

The main contractor is Crane Interiors and the architect is Your Studio.

Tom Philipson from Your Studio said:

“A lot of Alvin’s food is inspired by ancient Chinese recipes but using modern techniques. We wanted the design to reflect this mix of traditionalism and modernity, using natural elements such as stone and wood.

“The restaurant and its design is a very zen-like concept. We didn’t want anything to detract from the food, so we use a lot of natural materials like waxed timbers and coarse cut granite, but mixed with contemporary, hand-crafted metal work screens. The granite is a massive feature along the main wall. We are also using some Striato marble along each bar. New York-designed pendant lighting is also used throughout.

Two semi-private dining areas are available within the main room’s design, one which is a chef’s table seating up to eight guests and will afford diners a glimpse at the action behind Alvin’s ‘X-treme’ cuisine.

A more intimate setting is available on the lower ground with a private dining room – seating 20 guests – utilising subtle lighting and original finishes to provide customers with a personal space to savour the theatre of the kitchen.

Tom added:

“The lower ground floor is  the most premium area of the restaurant, where diners can see the chefs working. So the design needs to complement the drama of the food. We took our inspiration from Alvin’s two Michelin-starred restaurant in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai district, using a game of shadows and light to hint at the Hong Kong sky line at night.

“This has been a great project to work on and will be a really prestigious dining destination.”

Bo London is open for lunch Monday to Friday from 12:00–15:00 and for dinner Monday to Saturday from 19:00–23:00. Dim Sum available Monday to Friday 12:00-23:00; Saturday 19:00-23:00.
