Mirfield Care Home

Mirfield Care Home

In the planning for two years as part of the Orchards development, work has now started on Mirfield Care Home which will be part of the Hollybank Trust.

The trust meets the needs of children and adults with complex disabilities, but their aim is to reach way beyond meeting purely physical needs to nuture, develop and enrich the lives of those who spend time there.

A spokesperson from the trust said:

“Whilst we cannot match exactly everything that individual families provide, we do strive to reproduce a family environment and a homely atmosphere for children and adults with special needs.”

Operating in a range of locations across West and South Yorkshire, the trust offers a variety living accommodations to suit different needs – all residential facilities are open every day of the year.

When completed and fully operational in March, the care home will specifically be targeting the needs of young people with severe disabilities up to the age of 18.

The site previously comprised a single storey building which was used as a workshop; it had a pitched roof on timber trusses with concrete tile, load bearing masonry walls, precast slabs and an external finish of artificial stone with timber boarding.

Since works began another storey has been added, with nine bedrooms on the ground floor and eight on first. In addition to the bedrooms a lounge and dining/kitchen areas have been created.

Having had a close relationship with the Hollybank Trust over the last 15 years, Nuttall Yarwood and Partners were selected as the architects on the development.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“It is always satisfying to be involved with projects like this and to know that those using the building will be able to lead a more fulfilling life. We are always proud to work with Hollybank on their projects.”
