Historic school invests in new classrooms

Established at the dawn of the 20th century and residing in its current location in Abingdon, Oxfordshire since 1947, The Manor is an independent preparatory school within easy reach of both Oxford and many of its surrounding villages.

Endeavouring to offer high academic standards, the school aims to ensure that each and every child is able to progress to a secondary school of their parents’ choice. Above all, the Manor aims to enthuse children with a love of learning and the desire to make the very most of their abilities and opportunities.

Headmaster, Piers Heyworth said:

“The exceptionally caring and invigorating tone of the school ensures that children really do beam with happiness: they are delightfully self-confident and articulate. Laughter is an essential part of the school day in our community where children are both cherished and challenged.”

“The warm-hearted ethos of The Manor is very special indeed: the children really do flourish and are very well prepared – in the widest possible sense – for their future lives.”

The recent investment in four new classrooms is of course a further commitment to providing pupils with the best facilities.

Work on the new classrooms began in July 2012 and it is projected they will be in use by the summer term this year.

The project has been undertaken in two parts, there has been an in-fill between two existing buildings and then a new classroom block has been constructed.

Traditional cavity wall construction has been implemented along with exterior brickwork to match the surrounding buildings. The roof is made from teme coated stainless steel and all the light fittings are low energy.

The architects on the build were Gray Baynes & Shew, they are a multi-disciplinary practice with a keen eye for design quality and a strong focus on customer service. Work across a range of sectors from environments for work, for learning, for healing, for rest, for play or for worship – people are always at the heart of the spaces that GBS create.

The school welcomes boys aged 2-7 and girls, aged 2-11, for more information the visit www.manorprep.org.
