FitzRoy Whitegates View opens

Whitegates View Care Home- Hampshire

A brand new care home in Hampshire has opened its doors following an important redevelopment scheme.

Learning disability charity FitzRoy is celebrating with the debut of Whitegates View – its newest care home. The site in Liss, Hampshire opened for business in February 2013 following a construction period that started in 2011.

Nolan Davis Contracting Ltd was the main contractor on the project, whilst all architectural services were provided by Masser Architects.

FitzRoy has provided support to adults with learning disabilities in Liss since 1969, ever since purchasing the Whitegates house. However, over the years the building became quite dated and was eventually deemed unsuitable for the people it was providing support for.

In 2011 redevelopment work took place to convert the property into three, five-bedroom houses. Titled Whitegates View, the new purpose built houses are fully accessible and will offer 15 adults the space they need to live independently for the rest of their lives.

The final roof tile was put into place on the units in October 2012. Meanwhile the three barn-style homes all underwent an internal fit-out in late 2012 to deck the units out with bespoke equipment that offers great flexibility for new residents.

Each home comprises two downstairs bedrooms with a single shared en-suite bathroom and three upstairs rooms with an en-suite toilet and shared bathroom. Each bathroom has a walk in shower with sensory taps, whilst bedrooms and bathrooms are lockable to provide residents with privacy.

Additional features of Whitegates View include underfloor heating, lifts and laundry spaces. Externally Whitegate View boasts a large patio and landscaped grounds.

Based in Petersfield, Hampshire, FitzRoy was founded by Elizabeth FitzRoy in 1962. Prior to setting up the charity, Elizabeth’s son Michael was born with Down’s syndrome, so her vision was to find a way to support adults living with learning disabilities so that they could live more independently without the need for institutional care.

FitzRoy operates 59 locations across England and provides flexible support to over 500 adults thanks to approximately 700 members of staff. The charity does very important work and radically transforms the lives of people with learning disabilities.

FitzRoy prides itself on the fact that it listens to people in order to help them make their own choices. FitzRoy believe that disabilities shouldn’t exclude people from doing the things that they want to do.
