Morgan Sindall has completed work on a new development in Norfolk for the National Construction College (NCC).
Situated in the village of Bircham Newton, the project comprised the construction of two steel framed accommodation blocks – including 78 en-suite rooms and Wi-Fi access – and a new energy centre at the NCC East campus. A sustainable biomass boiler was also installed within the new energy centre in order to provide power to the accommodation blocks.
Work began on the project in February 2011 and reached completion towards the end of 2012. Funding for the project was provided by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), the Skills Funding Agency and CITB-ConstructionSkills.
Now complete, the NCC East Campus is set to become the specialist hub for the National Skills Academy for Construction.
Director of the National Construction College, Andy Walder, said:
“We want to ensure that our students have the best possible learning experience and have access to modern and contemporary facilities suited to the 21st Century.
“We take the welfare and well-being of our students extremely seriously. Our two new accommodation blocks will enable us to deliver excellence in construction training in a safe, comfortable and attractive environment.”
Construction and infrastructure experts Morgan Sindall was the main contractor on the project. The company is a leading name in the construction industry, working on a mix of private and public sector schemes ranging from £50,000 to more than £500 million.

The NCC is Europe’s largest construction provider and is part of CITB ConstructionSkills, the sector skills council and industry training board. CITB ConstructionSkills works both with the industry and for the industry in order to create a qualified and professional UK construction workforce.
The NCC works with construction companies in order to develop their skills set and to respond to the ever changing climate that the industry faces. The college works hard to attract the best candidates for the industry and trains approximately 30,000 workers each year.
