Les Ormes Golf & Leisure Club is a self catering leisure resort located in St Brelade, Jersey. In addition to its fantastic golfing, tourism and leisure facilities, the centre provides guests with a range of sporting activities, from tennis and badminton to a gym and pool.
At present, Club owner the Bosdet Foundation is implementing a strategic master plan to develop the site, bring its self catering accommodation units to a total of 67 units by July 2014.
Work on the site is being completed in phases, with the latest phase comprising the construction of eight two-bedroom self catering units, seven two-bedroom staff accommodation units and some associated ancillary accommodation. Camerons is the main contractor on the current project, with architectural services being provided by Riva Architects.
Riva Architects Associate, Ian Alder, said:
“Les Ormes Golf & Leisure Club was built on a former campsite and developed during the 1980s and 1990s to become the golf and leisure complex. Les Ormes is created for the benefit of the local community, however a while ago the site’s owners saw the opportunity to provide self catering accommodation units for tourists, to enhance what the site already had to offer.
“Some self catering units have already been created on the site, however the Bosdet Foundation’s wider masterplan for the site has been approved and we are currently moving forward with a number of new units.
“Once complete the new units will prove to be not just very beneficial to Les Ormes but to Jersey as well. Any profit made will be ploughed back as charitable giving into the Island.”
Work began on the current phase in September 2012 and at present is on schedule to reach completion in April 2013.
The new units are being built from a timber frame construction, with aluminium windows, a pitched roof and will include a full range of modern fixtures and fittings. Each unit is being positioned to coordinate with the contours of the landscape and once complete will appear as if they have always been a part of the site.
Ian said:
“The timing of this project is crucial. Each phase has been designed specifically to work around the tourist season, so it is important that we have the current phase completed by April in time for the next holiday season. This will be the same process that we will use for the next phase which will comprise the installation of additional self catering units, along with a swimming pool.”
At present, the new units are now wind and water tight and work is progressing on the first-fix, internal fit-out and the external cladding.
Ian added:
“All of the work that we undertake is very important to us, but it is great to be involved with a project as interesting as this one. Once work is complete on the project, we will have helped to enhance and strengthen the facilities at Les Ormes, which in turn will bring additional tourism and support to the Island. The work being conducted is a great investment for the Island.”
