Updating the Park Inn York

A project to refurbish key areas of the Park Inn York has reached completion.

The project – which was funded by the Rezidor Hotel Group – comprised the complete refurbishment of existing bedrooms and bathrooms, along with the update and modernisation of the lobby, reception area and bar. All bedrooms have benefitted from new casegoods, carpets and decorations, whilst the bar was stripped back and reworked.

Additional works on the hotel included improvements to public areas, meeting rooms and function suites, along with some external works, including new lighting and canopies.

Commenting on the project, Rezidor Hotel Group, General Manager, Sally Hughes, said:

“A considerable amount of money has been spent over the last couple of years, on refurbishing bedrooms and bathrooms within the Park Inn portfolio and the works we undertook on the Park Inn York has continued this programme.

“The location of the hotel is superb. It is right in the heart of the city, so guests can go shopping or sightseeing, before returning to the hotel to spend the afternoon sat in the bar.

“A lot of care and attention has gone into the design, so that the hotel reflects the city that it is in.”

Sally added:

“The refurbishment of the Park Inn York is actually part of a programme of works that we are currently undertaking, whereby we are refurbishing a series of Park Inn hotels across the UK. The aim is to improve existing facilities to benefit guests, ensuring that we meet the standards of everyone that walks through the door of a Park Inn hotel.”

Work began on the project in October 2012 and reached completion in March 2013. Veitchi Interiors was the main contractor on the project, whilst Graven Images provided all architectural services.

Donald Turner Operations Director, Veitchi Interiors, commented:

“Work was completed on this project in phases so that we could keep certain areas of the hotel in operation whilst the refurbishment was taking place. We completed the refurbishment in a tight time frame, but we achieved a good momentum on the project and work ran on schedule.

“We have worked with Park Inn and the Rezidor Hotel Group on a number of projects previously, including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds and we have a very good relationship with our client. This was the first time that we have worked with Graven Images and they were very good to work with.”

Graven Images Design Director, William Nolan, added:

“Our involvement with the Rezidor Hotel Group has lasted for more than ten years, and has included both refurbishment and new builds. We have been developing sites with the Rezidor Hotel Group on projects in the UK, North America and Europe and we have a lot of experience working with them as a client group.

“Working on the Park Inn York project we have now established a good working relationship with Veitchi Interiors and we would be very happy to work with them on future projects.”
