Supported by a membership of 30 mainstream metal roofing contractors and listing all the significant European metal manufacturers as associate members, the FTMRC has recently published a revised and updated Guide to Good Practice.
The book builds upon the success of the FTMRC’s its first edition with yet more insights and information.
In broadening the scope of the Guide to Good Practice, the FTMRC are beginning to encompass related areas such as underlays and substrates that significantly impact upon the sector with regard to both design and installation.
The 2nd Edition of the FTMRC UK Guide to Good Practice in Fully Supported Metal Roofing and Cladding is now available in both laminated hardback and soft cover versions, containing 96 pages of technical information, more than 100 illustrations, plus tables, charts and full colour photographs.
This essential guide for designers and installers is set out in tabbed, easy to read sections covering the general detailing requirements for aluminium, copper, galvanised and stainless steel and zinc roofing and cladding. Its laminated design format provides a durable publication for use on site, in the office or workshop.
The release of the 2nd Edition of the FTMRC UK Guide continues the association’s efforts to inform and educate the industry, which has previously been demonstrated through the extensive training courses that have been organised and which now take full advantage of the customised facilities at the LSA metal roof training centre at East Peckham, Kent.
Supported by funding from Construction Skills, the FTMRC have worked with the LSA to adapt the model roof sections in order to deliver multi metal training courses at all levels for the first time in the UK.
As well as adapting the roof models, the project included the provision of all the essential tools, machinery and equipment for hard metals training. Support from the metal manufacturing Associate Members of the FTMRC also enabled the upskilling of the trainers at the LSA to deliver hard metals courses at advanced levels – a standard that was previously only available outside the UK.
Also for the first time multi-metal courses are available, providing much needed guidance in the similarities in – and differences between – the various sheet metals used in traditional roofing.
This development in hard metals training has been very much in keeping with the priorities set by the FTMRC since its formation in 2007, in establishing and maintaining quality standards in traditional metal roofing design and installation.
All FTMRC members are vetted on a regular basis to ensure quality standards in design and workmanship are maintained at an acceptable level.
