Portview is a multi award winning universal fit-out specialist, project managing interior fit-out and refurbishment contracts for some of the world’s biggest brands across the UK and Ireland.
From humble beginnings in 1975 as a ‘one man and his van’ operation, Portview has grown into a multimillion pound company, with 2010 and 2011 being consecutive record years for turnover. Managing Director, Simon Campbell attributed this growth to the strength of client relationships at Portview, he said: “85 per cent of the work we carry out is for existing clients, many of whom we have been working with for many years.”
He added: “I believe our repeat business is due to our commitment to making the client’s job easy. We typically work for people who are very busy that are responsible to boards, property directors or managers, and are running a number of projects at once – we therefore endeavour to ensure they have as easy a ride as possible. We don’t create problems – we solve them, we are a non contractual company that is ultimately looking to build long term partnerships.”
The company has worked on a plethora of projects ranging from high end retailers in Knightsbridge and well known high street brands such as, Debenhams, HMV, Selfridges and Dixons through to Museums in Derry and offices in Milton Keynes.
Most recently the firm carried out works on Harvey Nichols’ new offering in Liverpool ONE, Beauty Bazaar. Speaking about the development, Simon said:
“Working with designers Four IV we translated their vision for Harvey Nichols into reality taking the empty shell and creating the finished environment ready for the final concession installations. It was a challenge but one we relished; it was a high end concept so the standard of workmanship and materials had to be first class.”
“The hospitality and leisure sectors are attractive for us and we are keen to keep growing in this area.”
Another high profile brand to recently receive the Portview touch was the world leading fashion brand Oscar de la Renta.
Portview were the main contractors on Oscar de la Renta’s new flagship store in Mayfair which opened earlier this year. Speaking about the project, Simon said: “The building was previously occupied by a Nicky Clarke hair salon, so for us it was a case of stripping out the existing space and putting in a whole new infrastructure.
“Working on a complex project in Central London presents its own unique set of challenges and this one was no different. Our team did a fantastic job of coordinating the project though and I’m pleased to say the results were worth the effort. It’s a fantastic looking store that reflects the premium nature of the brand.”
Erika Bearman, Senior Vice President, Global Communications at Oscar de la Renta, added: “Our new London store is an incredible centrepiece that really helps us to showcase our latest ranges in a luxurious retail environment. Organising the entire project while creating a completely bespoke set of furniture isn’t an easy ask, but Portview were incredibly professional and rose to the challenge.”
Aside from high end retail units the company have also successfully completed works on many restaurants and bars throughout the UK, the Montreux Jazz Cafe which opened its doors in Harrods late last year is a prime example.
The project involved stripping back three existing units to their original shells to make space for the new venue as well as two smaller shops, the Motreux Jazz Shop and a unit offering an exclusive line of official Montreux Jazz Festival products.
Speaking about the project, Portview’s Contracts Director, Sean McEvoy said: “The fit out was almost entirely bespoke and included a number of unique design elements. The result is a really impressive venue.”
Laurent Buri, Operations Manager at Montreux Jazz International added: “Fitting out in a live retail environment is always a challenge but Portview managed to complete all the work on time and to a very high standard. The result is an absolutely beautiful new cafe.”
Is it daunting working for such prestigious brands? Simon said: “I think you have to challenge yourself and while it can be glamorous working for such big names in the industry they’re all very demanding, and they do bring pressure, but in the end the results are always extremely rewarding.”
What can we expect from Portview in the forthcoming year? The firm are ahead on last year’s performance and have recently been awarded another Debenhams contract in Clapham, in addition to working for their long-term clients with-in Gatwick and Heathrow airports. Simon has said that the firm are also currently building relationships in the healthcare sectors.
