Located within the heart of Kennington is Oaka at The Mansion House, a fantastic new pub and dining room serving delicious food and drink.
Oaka at The Mansion House opened its doors in March 2013 and offers diners an inimitable combination of seasonal Pan Asian cuisine and hand crafted real ales from acclaimed Peterborough-based brewery Oakham Ales.
Oakham Ales’ award winning brews, JHB, Citra, Inferno and Bishop’s Farewell will be available on tap, and will be accompanied by dishes from exotic locations such as Thailand, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. Meanwhile, in addition to a more than ample restaurant and bar area, the site includes a spacious terrace, ideal for al fresco dining during the warmer months.
A notable feature of Oaka at The Mansion House is the use of a pioneering GeoBAR Heat Recovery System, which has been installed within the site’s cellar. The system has been designed to save around seven tonnes of carbon a year, making it an extremely environmentally friendly inclusion.
Created by Head Chef Siam Pukaokeaw, Oaka’s menu will offer a comprehensive selection of Gap glam. Literally translated as ‘beer food’, these small plates are ideal as a starter or to share with friends. Also designed to complement the flavours of the real ales, they feature such standouts as Heavenly Beef (fried slices of air-dried beef marinated in palm sugar and coriander), jammy king prawns (lightly coated king prawns with chilli jam and pomegranates), crunchy spiced aubergines, soft shell crab and fried mackerel marinated with sake, shoyu and herbs.
The remainder of Oaka’s extensive menu is equally as inventive and authentic and includes delicious salad wraps and rolls, together with soups, sashimi, futomaki and curries. The Chef’s specials meanwhile live up to their name and include such standout dishes as tamarind duck, Japanese hot pot, buta no kakuni and grilled spiced lamb cutlets and pad grapraw.
The pub’s seafood offering is spearheaded by giant king prawns pad prik and Pad Cha seafood – Red snapper, prawns, squid and mussels with chilli and wild ginger.
Formed in 2008, by Paul Hook and Patcharee Shaweewan, the Oaka Group operates pubs and restaurants throughout Peterborough and Birmingham. The launch of Oaka at The Mansion House marks the first time the Oaka Group has moved into the nation’s capital but promises to be the first in a new collection.
Oaka at The Mansion House is situated at 48 Kennington Park Road, London. For more information on Oaka at The Mansion House, or to make a booking, please visit: www.oakalondon.co.uk.
