Wolverton Swimming Pool makes a splash

Wolverton Swimming Pool Milton Keynes

Hoards of visitors turned out to witness the opening of Wolverton’s new swimming pool in Milton Keynes last month.

In one of her last actions as Mayor, Catriona Morris cut a ribbon to mark the occasion, before an estimated 1,600 local people donned their swimsuits to take a dip.

Approximately 4,000 passed through the doors to take a look around over the course of the opening weekend, with visitors able to swim for free and donations going to Willen Hospice.

The new facilities include a 25 metre community pool for general public swimming, lessons and lane swimming with a learner pool that includes fun water play features and warm water for younger swimmers. A sauna and steam room sits alongside the pool.

The fully air conditioned gym includes 65 fitness stations and is staffed by fully trained specialists, while the multi-purpose studio will host more than 30 classes a week including body pump, body balance, spinning and yoga.

Paul Sanders the Council’s Project Sponsor said:

“This project represents a £7million pound investment into community facilities in Wolverton and will most certainly make a huge contribution to getting the Wolverton and wider communities more active and healthy.”

Councillor Peter Geary, Cabinet Member with responsibility for communities added:

“This is a fantastic new facility for Milton Keynes. The pool and fitness centre has been delivered on time and on budget thanks to the close working relationship between the council, Wolverton Pool Trust and contractors. We are continually aiming to improve the leisure offer in Milton Keynes and there will be more to come in the future.”

A spokesperson from Wolverton Leisure Centre added:

“With a great range of leisure and fitness activities and membership options, Wolverton Swimming & Fitness Centre is the perfect choice for those who live in Milton Keynes, Newport Pagnell, Bletchley and the surrounding areas. Our leisure centre in Milton Keynes is ideally located for visitors from across the region, and it is our central location, alongside our fantastic facilities, which makes us the top choice for many keep-fit enthusiasts.”

The pool has a new access road and redway, off Great Monks Street into Addington Avenue, leading to the car park, and a new redway leading from Aylesbury Street West, with plenty of cycle parking spaces. Car parking is free.

SDC Construction was the main contractors on the project. The company recently celebrated 40 years in business and continues to go from strength to strength offering an unrivalled and varied range of project experience spanning across many sectors.
