A project to transform the former Bristol Pro Cathedral into high-end student accommodation has created a fantastic array of living units for the city.

The Bristol Pro Cathedral project – which was implemented by Student Castle Ltd – comprised the construction of a brand new building and the part-refurbishment of an existing Grade II* Listed cathedral. The new development includes 220 student units – split across the Cathedral and the Annexe – all boasting a range of modern fixtures and fittings.

The Cathedral features a selection of studio and twin units, whilst the Annexe – which comprised the new build element of the project – includes a mix of studios and cluster rooms. All of the new accommodation at the development has been finished to the highest standards and includes shower rooms, flat screen TVs, double beds and fitted kitchens.

Additional features of the new student accommodation include ultra fast 50m bps broadband & 8m bps Wi-Fi, on-site laundry facilities, 24-hour security, a cinema room and a gym. The new living quarters are just a few minutes walk from the main Bristol University campuses and are within easy reach of transport links to UWE campuses.

VINCI Construction UK was appointed as the main contractor on the project in 2012. With regional teams working throughout the UK, VINCI Construction UK offers a fully integrated service, taking a project from inception through to completion.

Discussing the project, Chris Pape, Managing Director of Building Division for the Midlands, South West, Wales and Retail, said:

“We welcomed the unique challenge that the transformation of the Bristol Pro-Cathedral provided for VINCI Construction UK. Drawing on all of our experience, we worked closely with Student Castle to ensure that all works were finished to the highest standard on this unique building.”

Student Castle provides high-quality student accommodation, for both UK and oversees students, in key locations across the UK. The latest development in Bristol joins sites in Newcastle, Cardiff, London and Manchester.
