Students Stay in Style

A fresh and exciting development, Centro Court, is a new provider of modern and contemporary student accommodation in the heart of Aberdeen.

Situated on Loch Street, a prime location within the city, this new development, implemented by Scape Homes, features two blocks, four storeys high, that are home to 56 unique student studios. A stairway and lift provide access to all floors. The studios range in size from 22 to 30 sq m and all provide a home from home setting, designed with every student’s needs and desires in mind.

Work began on this project in October 2012 and this impressive accommodation complex opened its doors to excited students earlier this month. The location of this development makes these studios an ideal choice for students at the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen College.

Speaking about this latest development Director at Scape Homes JF Ltd, Andrew Jack, explained:

“We are thrilled to have created a unique style of student accommodation. It is innovative for Aberdeen and we have led the way for other developments of this kind in the future.”

This location was previously the site of an old public house, The Loch Street bar, which was completely demolished in order for this new, modern building to be resurrected. Jopps Lane situated behind this development housed a motorcycle workshop which was also demolished providing the opportunity for the two sites to be combined.

Each studio is self contained, consisting of a combined, spacious lounge and bedroom area with double bed, separate kitchen with features including a ceramic hob, microwave and fridge, en suite shower room and plenty of storage and study space. All studios have lightning speed broadband available to ensure that overall the students live in both a comfortable and practical environment.

Additional to the studios, students have the benefit of socialising with friends in the common room, situated in a quirky development within the basement of the building, with facilities including an impressive 60” plasma TV, comfortable sofas, pool table and vending machines. Other communal facilities include a modern open aired decking area and a laundry room, leaving students with no excuses for the mountain of washing usually making its way back to their parents!

These studios certainly meet the high expectations of today’s students, who wish to study, socialise and sleep in modern, stylish and comfortable surroundings.

The construction of this innovative design was led by Mansell, a Scottish based company with a reputation of delivering excellent projects whilst benefiting the wider community. Balfour Beatty’s engineering services were subsequently the provider of all heating structures within the building.

David Murray Associates, a company committed to delivering high quality, efficient and sustainable designs were appointed to carry out the architectural work on this project. Interior design features including the kitchen and sofas were supplied by Loft Interiors who have previously been involved with providing furniture for various student accommodation.

Andrew Jack added:

“We have another site and are awaiting the go ahead to build more student studios of this kind. We are actually very keen in expanding this business and getting partners or investors on board with us for this project. This project has been of high importance to us. In the tight schedule we have had I am extremely pleased with the results we have achieved. Centro Court really is luxury living for students.”
