Topping out The Beaumont Hotel

Beaumont Hotel- Balderton Street

Last month marked the topping out of The Beaumont Hotel, Balderton Street – a unique and stylish redevelopment in London’s prestigious Mayfair.

The hotel is a partnership between Grosvenor, who has led the development of the hotel and the operator Corbin & King Hotels. Since construction began in 2011 this development has ran on schedule and completion of The Beaumont is scheduled for the summer of 2014.

Conducting the topping out ceremony, Chorus Group’s Paul Gent and Grosvenor Britain & Ireland’s Peter Vernon laid the final paving stone, completing the construction of this magnificent hotel. There were smiles and glasses raised during a toast to commemorate the exciting milestone.

The Beaumont is the only five star hotel to open its doors on Grosvenor’s Mayfair estate in the last decade, a welcomed prospect for the city. This is a new and exciting experience for restaurateurs Corbin & King as they enter the luxury hotel market for the very first time. Chris Corbin and Jeremy King have been business partners for over thirty years and are no strangers to success, owning and managing some of London’s most respected, revered and popular restaurants which include The Wolseley and The Delaunay.

Behind the Grade II Listed facade of this landmark 1920’s art deco building, The Beaumont comprises 73 bedrooms and a range of public areas. A restaurant and lobby bar, residents’ lounge, meeting facilities and spa are among the first class facilities available, making this hotel a desirable and alluring addition to the centre of London.

Exceptional standards have been consistently set by The Beaumont in order to reflect the uniqueness and individuality of this hotel whilst providing its guests with an enjoyable and memorable experience. This has been ultimately demonstrated with the hotel set to feature the first inhabitable work of art by leading British artist Antony Gormley. The sculpture, which doubles as a unique guestroom for the hotel, is to be unveiled in early 2014.

Ian Morrison, Development Director for Grosvenor’s London estate said:

“The topping out of The Beaumont Hotel is an important milestone for us and illustrates Grosvenor’s ability to deliver exceptional schemes that reflect the history of the area and are architecturally interesting. The Beaumont is a key part of the place making strategy for North Mayfair and I am delighted to be marking this key event today and look forward to the opening of the hotel next year.”

Grosvenor and Corbin & King have been working with contractor Chorus, specialists in high quality refurbishment and fitting out, on this impressive redevelopment. It has been designed by Reardon Smith Architects, the most experienced hotel architectural practice in London today, whose previous Iconic works include the Four Seasons on Park Lane, The Savoy and Claridge’s.

Gallowglass Security Partners LLP is a security specialist, with a long standing working relationship with Grosvenor Britain & Ireland. Gallowglass Security Partners LLP specialise in event security, static man-guarding and live-in caretaking and currently provides services to four Grosvenor Hotels.

Working on The Beaumont Hotel, Gallowglass Security Partners LLP is supplying static man-guarding, patrolling services and access control.

Discussing their involvement with Grosvenor, Gallowglass Security Partners LLP, Partner for Regional Development, Jaco Nieuwoudt, said:

“We currently have a one-year contract with Grosvenor as their security supplier and we hope to extend this moving forward. The Beaumont Hotel is a great platform for us and Grosvenor are a great client to work with.”

Food and beverage support facilities specialist, Sefton Horn Winch (SHW) developed the designs andspecification for catering equipment, refrigeration and kitchen ventilation for the two kitchens and bar work stations at the hotel. Developing the designs with the operator’s executive chefs and coordinating with the architects and services engineers, SHW began with the food and beverage brief and finished with defects inspection and PC.

Commenting on their involvement, Gareth Sefton, Sefton Horn Winch, said:

“Over the past 4 years we have developed a close working relationship with the operator, Rex Restaurants Ltd, with The Beaumont Hotel being the fourth completed project in as many years following The Delaunay, Brasserie Zedel and Colbert Chelsea. This relationship brought us to the attention of the client, Grosvenor, being a global developer presents a very exciting opportunity to SHW.”

Gareth added:

“We pride ourselves on the way we continue to support each project long after its opening.”

The Beaumont overlooks the newly redeveloped Brown Hart gardens, a pleasant and calm paved terrace space, providing a peaceful contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. Other recent developments in the area include the completion of public realm works on North Audley Street and Duke Street. Grosvenor’s on-going investment in North Mayfair is a clear reflection on their wider vision for this area, to create an exciting and charming destination for people to live in, work in and visit.
