Cineworld is one of the UK’s leading cinema groups, operating 101 sites in the UK and Ireland under the Cineworld and Picturehouse brands.
The group’s latest site is Cineworld Wembley, which is an exciting new cinema set to open at the end of October 2013.
Cineworld Wembley features nine digital screens – including five screens with 3D capabilities – and will showcase all the latest blockbusters, from Thor: The Dark World through to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Once work is completed on the project, the new cinema will form part of the London Designer Outlet, a world-class destination for designer shopping, boutique eating and drinking.
Fraser McColgan is the Vice President of Design and Construction for Cineworld and is working with contractors and consultants to oversee the in-house design and project management team for Cineworld Wembley. Fraser has been involved directly in the overall design of the cinema from inception through to completion, with the assistance of a very competent and experienced team.
Commenting on the new development in Wembley, Fraser said:
“Cineworld is pleased to be part of this exciting new development in Wembley. We are the number one cinema chain in the UK, leading both box office and admissions and we pride ourselves on offering customers the best value for money, whilst at the same time providing the ultimate cinema experience.
“With this latest addition to our portfolio we have created 95 new jobs in the local area and we look forward to welcoming film fans who are eager to see the latest blockbusters and other exciting screen content.”
Work began on Cineworld Wembley in May 2013 and with no major challenges, the work has made excellent progress as it concludes; meeting its original projected opening date. Commercial interior design specialist, Swindon Interiors is the main contractor on the project and has been instrumental on the new cinema’s development.
Swindon Interiors build and fit out a vast array of projects within the leisure and business industries, including Warner Bros’ headquarters and the base of operations for Kershaw Group. This new project is not the first time that Swindon Installation has been involved with Cineworld, as it previously installed IMAX screens, sound and projection systems at five Cineworld cinemas in Ipswich, Enfield, Nottingham, Birmingham and Dublin.
Commenting, Fraser said:
“Cineworld is working with Swindon Interiors on this exciting new cinema which will be part of the unique London Designer Outlet when it opens at the end of October. It is no mean feat, as the project is being constructed around the event schedules of both Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena, meaning that deliveries and construction must be carried out within very strict time schedules.
“In addition, the only access for the building is 18 meters high as the cinema is being constructed on the 4th and 5th floors, creating challenging conditions for access, for both materials and personnel. Even with these restrictions, Swindon Interiors are fitting out this warm shell to the very high standards of Cineworld, and we are on schedule to open at the end of October.
“Swindon Interiors are managing the entire project through to opening, supplying and installing ceilings, carpets, floor finishes, seating, screens, washroom facilities and retail concessions, through to projection systems and sound and lighting. Swindon Interiors is also responsible for decoration and full electrical mechanical services.”
The new cinema covers an area of 39,952 sq ft and will feature 1,760 standard seats and 35 D-Box seats, offering a fantastic cinematic experience for all its guests. In addition, there are 29 permanent wheelchair accessible spaces and a further 25 accessible spaces via removable seats.
“Cineworld Wembley will offer a variety of fully accessible seating areas throughout the auditoriums, including specially constructed access boxes, with lifts, handrails, gently sloping floors and short ramps all designed to be inconspicuous. In addition, the new cinema will feature disabled WC’s, drop counters for wheelchair users, Tivoli lighting to auditorium steps and aisles to assist with way finding, infra-red audio description and induction loops to counters. Cineworld also provides autism friendly screenings for customers.”
The cinema will also include a Starbucks on the upper level, which benefits from an impressive view of Wembley Stadium. With all this and more, local film fans don’t have much longer to wait before the curtain goes up for Cineworld Wembley’s first performance.
