Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction magazine.

This month we take a look at the UK’s first solar powered home, an impressive build in Great Glen in Leicestershire; we pay a visit to the beautiful self catering apartments at The Inn at John O’Groats; and we also get to grips with what Manchester City fans can expect from the brand new  Citystore at the Etihad Stadium.

The UK’s first solar powered house, built by Caplin Homes in partnership with New Form Energy, is an innovative example of the future of energy efficient housing solutions. Covering 360 surface metres, the house employs a considerable amount of triple glazed south facing glass, with more solar gain than losses through the glass. A solar wall has also been included, which pre-warms incoming air into the house. The house captures the suns energy during the warmer months, stores it underground, and then brings it back into the house to be used for heating and domestic hot water in the winter.

The Inn at John O’Groats follows the restoration of the former John O’Groats Hotel which was originally built in 1875. The multi-million development is the most recent of Natural Retreats’ projects. Natural Retreats offer luxury self catering facilities all over the world including the picturesque natural wilderness in Caithness in the North of Scotland. The vibrant, colourful apartments are nestled in an area rife with natural beauty. Visitors can witness the Northern Lights, take a day trip to the Orkneys, or even take part in real-life treasure hunting; at the most northerly tip of Scotland.

Citystore replaces the stadium’s existing retail unit, which was redesigned and refitted over the summer. The shop was officially unveiled on 27th June by former England and Man City football player Mike Summerbee. Split across two levels and covering an area of 900 square metres CityStore boasts a Nike boot room with 4G Astroturf floor; bespoke retail fixtures and enhanced lighting. A shirt printing lab for customisation is in store, whilst a green screen personalisation service to superimpose the stadium onto images is also available. In addition, the store offers a click and collect service as well as supporter services and tickets.

With all this and more, join us as we delve into the impressive projects that continue to shape our landscape.

Alex
