Establishing Jones & Sons

Jones & Sons, 23-27 Arcola Street, London

Situated at 23-27 Arcola Street, London, Jones & Sons is a brand new café, bar and restaurant serving good quality British cuisine.

Housed within an old Victorian textile factory in Dalston and open every day, Jones & Sons serves up a great selection of dishes, making use of locally sourced produce.

Andy Jones is the Managing Director of Jones & Sons. Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the creation of this new eatery, Andy said:

“When approaching Jones & Sons I set out specifically not to have a concept. I didn’t want the restaurant to be a fad; I didn’t want it to be a gimmick; I wanted Jones & Sons to be good old fashioned restaurant that offers really good food and great service.

“At Jones & Sons we serve modern British food, with great cuts of meat and locally sourced fruit and vegetables. We use small suppliers, because we are a small company ourselves, and I think it is important to support the smaller suppliers. At the end of the day I want my custom to mean something to my suppliers, very much in the same way that each customer that comes through my door means something to me.”

Jones & Sons opened in July 2013 and so far the feedback has been fantastic, which is something that has certainly caught Andy’s attention:

“The feedback has been amazing. I was not quite sure what was going to happen when we opened, but before I knew it we were getting these brilliant reviews and suddenly we were appearing on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I’m only now just about getting used to the idea of seeing people taking pictures of their food to share with their friends via social media – it has really opened my eyes to who is seeing our food!”

The design of the restaurant was conducted by Andy and his business partner Richard Priestley, with significant input from Richard’s partner Milika Muritu. Milika introduced a softer touch to an otherwise sharp design, giving Jones & Sons the finishing touches it needed.

Design features of Jones & Sons include a 5m long marble bar, mounted hardwood shelves and reclaimed oak cladding. The kitchen is encased within a pitched roof, making it a very unique feature of the venue, whilst the lighting scheme makes use of reclaimed shipyard lights.

Andy said:

“I never had any doubts about the food being great or the drinks being fresh, but to put ourselves out there with our own design was quite daunting. If people didn’t embrace what we were trying to do it would have been very disheartening. Thankfully no one has said anything bad about Jones & Sons.

“A great deal of hard work went into this project. We managed to complete 12 weeks work within five weeks, which was a mammoth task, but it has all paid off. We are very pleased with everything that we have achieved.”
