Expanding Bay Filey

The Bay Filey Holiday Village, East Yorkshire

The Bay Filey Holiday Village in East Yorkshire is set to expand over the next five years; aiming to erect and sell 858 holiday homes.

50 holiday homes are currently being built on site and will take the number of houses in the village up to 372. By its completion the development is set to cost developers over £120 million.

Wayne Low, Managing Director of Essential Vivendi Construction and Richmond Properties, bought The Bay Filey site in 1998. He obtained planning permission in 2002 and began the development of the holiday village in 2006.

The site was extremely dilapidated upon purchase and so extensive work was needed before the development could begin. The site, which is 150 acres, now contains a pub, convenience store, coffee shop, cafe, leisure centre; including a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym.

The village leads directly to the beautiful Blue Flag Beach and was the motivating factor behind the investment. The site holds one and two bed apartments, two, three and four bed cottages; and two, three and four bed beach houses which offer enviable sea views.

The holiday homes at The Bay have been built to a very high standard from a timber frame construction and the external fenestration has been achieved with a traditionally crafted brick. All the materials used on site have been sourced from Germany, Holland and Belgium; including brick, clay and slate. Each property is fitted with all the latest appliances including a high spec kitchen, central heating and double-glazing.

The New England style Beach Houses meet British Building Regulations as they use Structurally Insulated Panels certified by the BBA, energy efficient lighting systems, water saving devices and other energy saving products. Due to the environmental design the houses achieve code 4/5 criteria of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Speaking to premier construction Wayne Low said:

“I’m incredibly proud of The Bay Filey development; I’ve designed and built everything you see on site. I’ve picked the materials and even laid the bricks on some of the houses. I just want to see it continue to grow at the rate it’s growing at now.”

Wayne Low said the development is running extremely smoothly with little impact on holiday makers. This is due to the construction mitigation policy the site has which limits the impact of the development on holiday makers.

Wayne added:

“The policy is closely adhered to and that is why we have got Hoseasons Holidays Awards for the past four years running. We have also just won a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor which puts us in the top ten percent of businesses in the world.”

The houses are sold to holiday makers of all ages including family groups, couples and friends. Home owners have a plethora of facilities on site to entertain them including a tennis court, putting course, fishing lake, archery and sea scooters.

The Bay is one of fourteen holiday destinations nationwide that offers Hoseasons’ Go Active Breaks. This means they offer an endless number of activities for visitors to partake including waterwalkerz, fencing and body zorbing. The Bay Filey has other sites that offer Go Active Breaks include Yorkshire Coast Cottages, Leeds, Hull and the North York Moors.

Those wanting to relax can stroll down to the beautiful blue Flag beach and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Coast. Residents of the village have private access to half a mile of the golden sands. The beach stretches for five and a half miles from Bempton Cliffs nature reserve to the south around to Filey Brigg and offers hours of invigorating exploration.

The village also boasts tranquil areas that allow visitors to absorb the beautiful landscape. Peaceful parklands, woodland and meadows flourishing with wildlife surround the site, and offer holiday makers the chance to relax and take time out from stressful schedules.

The site’s £1.5 million leisure centre allows families, couples and friends alike the chance to relax, rejuvenate and distress in the top of the range complex. Home owners receive automatic membership of the tennis courts, swimming facilities, sauna, steam room and fitness suite and temporary membership for guests and site visitors.

Anyone in need of a pampering session can also find the answer in the Leisure Complex. Manicures and pedicures, spray tanning, Dermatologica facials, waxing, eyelash treatments and eyelash & eyebrow tinting are available within the spa section of the leisure facility.

The site also attracts thousands of people from outside the village all year round to enjoy the facilities, especially those who earn a living on site. Over 140 individuals work at The Bay Filey Village directly and indirectly and so the site acts as a key area of employment.

After the development’s completion in five years time the estimated cost will be a mouth watering £120 million. The site has had to be fitted with high voltage and low voltage sub stations, draining networks and water networks.
