A dash of Source

Source Battersea, ansome’s Dock, close to the River Thames

Situated in Ransome’s Dock, close to the River Thames, Source Battersea is a brand new restaurant serving delicious British cuisine.

Source Battersea officially opened its doors in November 2013 and with its ethos of offering guests a ‘seasonal, simple and social’ experience, feedback for the restaurant has already been extremely positive.

London-based practice, Trellik Design Studio was the interior design architect on Source Battersea. Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the project, Jean Dumas of Trellik Design, said:

“Source Battersea embraces its locality and is all about fresh, seasonal, farm-to-table food. The restaurant is very welcoming and serves a varied menu encompassing all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“We met with the client in February 2013, with design work taking place in July. Work started on site towards the end of August.

“The restaurant is on one floor, however, there is a basement and sub basement for back-of-house operations. We moved the toilets down stairs to increase the size of the restaurant and we also introduced a disabled toilet into the site.

“The kitchen has been opened up and we introduced windows into this area, to create a sense of theatre and activity, allowing guests to see where the food is being made.”

The design of Source Battersea incorporates a warm and welcoming atmosphere which is extremely inviting. Natural lighting is also key to the design, alongside an industrial element which runs through the restaurant.

Features of the restaurant’s interior include white painted brickwork, a polished concrete floor, reclaimed timber and subtle tiling. The design is simple, yet serene, bringing a minimalist approach to the materials used.

Jean said:

“Our client has worked in numerous countries over the years and has been influenced by the designs in Copenhagen, where there are some amazing restaurants. The brief looked to create an industrial, yet cosy feel.”

Jean added:

“It was very exciting for Trellik Design Studio to be involved with this project as it was our first restaurant commission. We have recently launched our practice, however, I have worked on many restaurant projects in the past, including Pizza East and Sophie’s Steakhouse and Bar. We had a young, passionate client, so this project has been very fruitful for all involved.”

Dishes on offer at Source Battersea include tagliatelle and rabbit Ragu; mutton polenta and spinach; lemon sole with fennel; and cod, chickpea and chorizo. Side dishes include macaroni, squash and cheese; winter greens; and braised chicory with bacon.

If puddings are more likely to be the order of the day, then diners can tuck into the likes of a doughnut ice cream sandwich; bourbon bread & butter pudding; or a pear & almond tart.

A Sunday roast menu is available, with the choice of either ribeye or hogget, served with potatoes, greens and gravy; cod, chickpea and chorizo; or potato rosti, egg and cheese. The Sunday lunch menu also includes apple crumble or vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Source Battersea includes an extensive wine menu which includes red, white and rose, alongside a selection of fine wines and a dessert wine. A small selection of sparkling wines and champagne is also available.
