Upon starting the company in October 2003, Matt Phillips, MD of Downwell admits he could not have envisaged now presiding over a business with a turnover approaching £7million and a client base envied by many of his competitors.
Given the recent economic conditions, and particularly those affecting the construction industry, the growth shown is even more remarkable at a time when some of his rivals have sadly not survived the pressing conditions.
Matt commented: “I feel very proud of how the business has grown and am immensely grateful to my loyal & trusted workforce, both on site and office based, for their own efforts in establishing the company. Without the continued loyalty of my staff, together with a commitment to investment in continual plant modernisation, I genuinely feel that we would not have grown to the same degree. I am also very pleased that we have maintained our impeccable safety record throughout the last 10 years, whilst growing at such a pace, and know how much effort has been expended to ensure we keep up to date with industry improvements in this area. Safety on site is of paramount importance and will always continue to be so.”
Downwell have during the last few years achieved numerous industry accreditations for best practice including CHAS, Constructionline and ISO’s 9001 & 14001, and most recently were accepted as a full member of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors.
So what does the future hold? Downwell already count the vast majority of major construction contractors and homebuilders amongst their clients, but will continue to devote considerable resource to expanding their operations, with the intention of eventually becoming one of the most respected demolition contractors within the UK.
