Russell Construction

Russell Construction, a large main contractor based in the North West, work across a range of sector areas, offering design consultancy and construction services to clients.

The family-owned business was founded in 1997 by Andrew and Gareth Russell and employs more than 70 employees and several hundred sub contractors and suppliers.

The firm offer design, installation and project management of structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical services. The company has expanded over the years after acquiring Pentith Construction in 2002; since then Russell’s has formed new division and diversified their skill set.

The firm has established another arm within Russell’s; a residential development division entitled Russell Homes. Russell Homes is an award-winning independent house builder developing bespoke residential schemes across the North West. They have built an extensive and varied portfolio throughout the Greater Manchester area, and have broadened their geographic reach into North Wales, Yorkshire and beyond.

Formed in 2004 the property developer has a series of small, select developments across Cheshire and Lancashire, including The Miltons in Cheadle, Village Green in Wigan, The Fells in Tyldesley, Pembroke House, Wilmslow, Waters Edge Mews in Middlewich and Lockside Mill in Todmorden. The residential property arm of the firm aims to provide buyers with the best experience possible, as well as giving them a beautiful home at the end of the scheme.

The firm began their construction journey focusing on external projects and industrial property, and has since moved on to commercial office space, logistics, retail and leisure. The team has also gained expertise in the construction of high rise developments on constrained city centre sites over the years.

They have a vast array of clients including Peel Holdings, Manchester City Council, Royal London Asset Management, Aldi, Lidl, B&Q, Pizza Hut, Harry Ramsden, Currys, Manchester Wholesale Flowers Ltd, Air Atlanta, Yearsley Group, AK Worthington Ltd, Longs of Leeds, Driving Standards Agency, Rok, Property Alliance Group and Kilmartin Group.

Russell’s work across a number of sectors including commercial, industrial, office, retail and leisure, and residential developments.  The team also assists clients in land negotiations, often acquiring sites on their behalf as part of comprehensive design and build contracts.

Building properties in a sustainable manner is at the forefront of Russell’s agenda as sustainability is now extremely popular with clients demanding that their projects are completed to a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ or above. The firm provides options and solutions for clients in line with the ever-evolving requirements and legislation. The environmental impact of a building is tracked from initial concept through to completion and on into everyday use. Lessening the environmental impact of a building can involve replacing raw, natural materials with recycled content, reducing energy use and pollution during construction and ensuring waste is minimised and recycled.

Russell’s Construction have pledged to take account of the following factors as part of the process; the amount of waste generated in construction, the amount of water used by the completed structure, the procurement of materials from sustainable sources, the amount of CO2 emitted by the building once complete and the effects upon the local ecology.

The firm take their Corporate Responsibility Role very seriously as they believe it is important for all companies to connect with their local community. A spokesperson for Russell Construction said:

“The construction industry is a huge part of the British economy and the projects we undertake are a very visible part of the communities in which we work. There is an obvious opportunity for us as a business to engage with local people and worthwhile causes on a number of levels.

“For us, Corporate Social Responsibility isn’t simply about money; it’s about sharing skills and expertise, spreading the site safety and environmental awareness messages, and doing our bit when it comes to supporting local charities. It needn’t cost the earth and can be worth its weight in staff morale. This might not be easy to quantify but, conversely, an unhappy and demotivated workforce is easy to identify and will have an adverse effect on any business.”
