New holiday homes make a splash

 Una St Ives, Cornwall

A new 5-star coastal resort in Cornwall, which combines self-catering holiday homes with the standards of a destination hotel, is under construction.

Property investors Frogmore have invested £16 million in the 20 acre project, the first phase of which will be completed in August 2014, with a further 78 properties to be built across the following months.

The holiday homes in Una St Ives are priced between £160,000 and £450,000 and come with a highly experienced on-site management team. Sean Hodgson, Sales Director at Una St Ives, comments:

The UK holiday market has doubled in recent years, fuelled substantially by property buyers seeking to acquire a buy-to-let investment they can also enjoy themselves.  We are offering people a chance to have their own slice of a Cornish community, combined with a sound investment and the security of an experienced property management team.”

The properties are eco-inspired and have been carefully crafted with nature in mind. Developer Frogmore have worked with local suppliers where possible. Each property for sale has been constructed with wood obtained from sustainable sources and bolstered with sheep’s wool insulation and triple glazing.

The properties also have green sedum roofs that enhance the scenic outlook of the development with their natural hues. The plant blossoms to form a tightly knit blanket with a long lifespan that has several green advantages. Naturally insulating and thereby reducing energy costs, each roof soaks up the rain reducing the run off rainfall and acting as a sustainable drainage system. The roofs also offer sound insulation using the combined effect of soil, plants and trapped layers of air.

The houses have solar panels again adding to the environmentally friendly nature of the holiday retreat. The discretely placed low maintenance solar panels supplement electronic immersion systems, and efficiently supply about a third of hot water needs. The properties are also triple glazed allowing for a high level of solar heat gain, capturing free heat energy from outside during the day to keep residents cosy at night. Each property has whole house ventilation system which expels moist stale air from within the house and passes it through a heat exchanger.

Una St Ives’ has its very own green transport service; an onsite shuttle bus meaning visitors can hang up their car keys and reduce their carbon footprint. The shuttle has regular trips to Carbis Bay beach and back and allows holiday makers to travel around without the hassle of having to find a parking space. A competitive purchase price and an enviable location make these properties a great investment. St Ives is home to an exciting blend of picture-perfect beaches including Porthmeor, Porthgwidden, Harbour and Porthminster.

A selection of leading restaurants can also be found nearby, such as The Mermaid which serves up fresh local fish plus locally farmed meat and poultry as well as Onshore, which offers stunning views of St Ives harbour front and serves the finest seafood, pasta & pizza cuisine.

Sales Director, Sean Hodgson adds:

“Una St Ives is carefully crafted, marrying laid-back Cornish living with natural indulgence. The welcoming, open and calming space at the centre of Una is what will really set it apart; the accessible spa, leisure amenities plus a dynamic restaurant and deli means guests can have everything as and when they need it.”
