Tidworth Primary School

A new, two storey primary school is under construction in Tidworth, Hampshire and is due to be completed by July 2014.

Work to erect the new school began in October 2013 and when open will provide places for 420 pupils, as well as offering space for 30 nursery school pupils.

Tidworth Primary School will contain state of the art teaching facilities, alongside playing fields, external games court, playgrounds and 30 car parking space. The construction of the school is a response to Wiltshire Council’s proposal to erect 1600 dwellings in the Tidworth community area. The new primary school will be based on a site in the new housing development.

The building is clad in facing brickwork and render and the roof is clad with concrete tiles. The roof is pitched and includes features such as a rooflight and PVCu guttering. The building and surrounding site has been fitted out with security devices including detection and alarm systems and permanent fencing.

The school is a £5 million project and will open its doors in September 2014. Each class, from Reception to Year Six, will initially hold 30 children; progressively increasing to 45 as housing is completed by the developer and occupied.

Pupils from four to eleven will attend the school, which has extensive facilities for children with Special Educational Needs. The school will promote an inclusive learning environment in which all pupils, including those with special or additional educational needs and those with disabilities are supported and enabled to make maximum progress. The statutory SEN framework will be adhered to and the school will be expected to ensure timely identification and assessment of needs, appropriate intervention and the efficient monitoring of the progress of pupils with identified special or additional needs.

Hampshire based Midas Construction are the main contractors on the project; the firm serves all customers’ design and construction needs from a network of local regional offices. DKA are the lead architects on the development; with over 20 years’ experience of designing and delivering quality buildings their services include architecture, interior design and project management.

This is just one development that Wiltshire Council are overseeing that is set to improve provision for communities and further rejuvenate the area.
