Expert restaurant and hospitality designers Gundry Ducker provided the interior design for Rosa’s Thai Café Carnaby and it’s a brand that the practice is very familiar with. Speaking to Premier Hospitality, Christian Ducker of Gundry Ducker, said:

“We became involved with the very first Rosa’s Thai Café in Spitalfields back in 2007 and to date there have been four sites. Back when we started the project we had a small budget and limited time, so that first project had an extremely quick turnaround. From this initial site the brand continued to grow into a small chain and we have remained working with them ever since.”

Christian further explained:

“All Rosa sites are quite small scale, but that is part of the brand’s appeal. Rosa’s Thai Café is not a large chain that needs large units, instead each site retains that cafe-style experience, with stools and benches – we get a lot of covers out of quite a small area. When designing the layout we ensured that every square inch is used to its fullest. Each site has this English cafe-meets Thailand theme, creating an interesting offering.”

Such is the success of the Rosa’s Thai Café brand, the Carnaby site was recently nominated for an award in the Casual Dining Design Awards 2014, in the category of Best Designed Independent Restaurant 2014. Gundry Ducker received a commendation for its work on the venue, which is something Christian is understandably very proud of.

Christian said:

“Being nominated and of course receiving a commendation is very important to us as this recognition is a great platform which shows future clients what we are capable of. Awards like this help us to get our names out there. We have entered award ceremonies previously, including the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, but we had never entered the Casual Dining Design Awards so to be a part of this ceremony was great.”
