Morrison Construction

As one of the nation’s leading construction and house-building businesses, Morrison Construction knows a thing or two about delivering high quality projects on time and to a client’s specifications.

To date, the award-winning company has successfully delivered more than £1 billion of public and private sector projects throughout Scotland and in the process has developed an enviable portfolio.

In terms of its building work, Morrison Construction works in both the public and private sector, with projects ranging from commercial, education and health, to leisure, refurbishment and fit out schemes. Meanwhile, in the infrastructure sector Morrison Construction undertakes and delivers projects in water, rail, renewable energy and roads and bridges.

In addition to its building and infrastructure works, Morrison Construction is committed to providing partnership housing solutions which result in the delivery of social and affordable housing. In the housing sector, Morrison Construction’s homes are built within prime, desirable locations and constructed to the highest standards.

Recent housing projects for Morrison Construction include Reed Street Carbon Negative Community Village; St John’s Church; and an extensive regeneration scheme in Gateshead. The Gateshead scheme is one of the UK’s largest residential regeneration programmes, will span 15 years and sees all homes built to a minimum of Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The St John’s Church scheme was a £4 million project in Wembley, London for asra Housing Group and the Greater London Diocese. The mixed-use low-carbon development comprised 12 apartments, eight terraced houses, a community centre and the UK’s first net zero carbon vicarage. Each home on the development was built to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, whilst the vicarage was built to achieve Code Level 6.

Reed Street Carbon Negative Community Village is a £3.9 million project, based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The project involves the construction of the country’s largest solar-powered affordable housing scheme and consists of 21 carbon negative homes, equipped with 85 kW photovoltaic solar panels. The panels generate enough clean electricity for all the homes on the development, with excess energy exported to the National Grid.

In addition to its impressive housing projects, Morrison Construction recently announced it had secured a contract to build two temporary coach terminals for The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. The contract, which was announced in December 2013, is in addition to being the preferred partner for any additional construction works.

Ken Gillespie, Construction Division Chief Executive for Morrison Construction, said:

“We are proud to play our part in staging The 2014 Ryder Cup, which is about much more than a sporting spectacle for Scotland. It is already creating a real legacy through business opportunities for Scottish companies and their supply chains and improvements to local infrastructure.”

Ryder Cup Match Director, Edward Kitson, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Morrison Construction and indeed its parent business Galliford Try into the family of suppliers for The Ryder Cup.”
