Eye of the tiger

Cornish Tiger, 1 Battersea Rise, London

Located at 1 Battersea Rise, London, Cornish Tiger is a brand new restaurant serving up modern British cuisine within a desirable setting.

Cornish Tiger brings fresh, delicate artisan food to the high street with a fantastic selection of dishes prepared from the finest quality ingredients.

Cornish Tiger opened its doors to guests in early 2014 and both the food and the interior design has been met with fantastic feedback. A very notable feature of the restaurant is the stunning marble bar which includes glazed panels and is a key focus of the venue.

Thames Contracts was the main contractor on Cornish Tiger, whilst Lifeforms provided all design work. Lifeforms is an award-winning practice with vast experience in the hospitality sector, having previously worked on projects such as Beirut Street Kitchen, Chillies Tandoori and The Gantry.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about Cornish Tiger, Lifeforms Company Director, Lee Pollock, said:

Cornish Tiger, 1 Battersea Rise, London

“Cornish Tiger is a local restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. The brief we were given from our client was that Cornish Tiger was to be informal and relaxing; presenting a traditional British flavour with a twist. The restaurant’s interior has some really interesting details which make it ideal for a venue which can trade throughout most of the day.

“This is the first Cornish Tiger restaurant and we became involved through our association with catering suppliers, Chiller Box. We have worked with Chiller Box on a number of projects, including The Gantry, and this is where our client had seen our work. They liked what we could do, so they got in touch and asked us to work on this concept.”

Lee added:

“The project had a very quick turnaround, with work beginning on site in early January 2014. The site was previously a restaurant so we refreshed and reworked the restaurant, stripped out the kitchen and restyled the layout to completely transform the venue.”

Cornish Tiger presents guests with an extensive and far too tempting menu, with starters which include mackerel tartar with toasted spice, orange and fennel shavings; and sweet chilli and tamarind swordfish with carrot and coriander spaghetti. Main dishes on offer at Cornish Tiger include tiger-seasoned sirloin steak with chunky chips, coriander hollandaise (or tiger sauce); sea bad with spiced crust and pumpkin and carrot tagine; and herb-infused breast of chicken with sauté celeriac.

For those with a sweet tooth the dessert menu includes many tempting treats, all backed by artisan, handmade ice creams and sorbets. A Sunday lunch and bar menu are also available at Cornish Tiger. Meanwhile, the drinks menu includes teas, coffees, Belgian beers, wines, cocktails and spirits.

Working on Cornish Tiger is clearly something which Lee is very proud of and has allowed his team at Lifeforms to put their skills to use once again on a fantastic and rewarding project.

Lee commented:

“Having a designer on board a project like this is a key part of the operational process. Our clients had a great vision and trusted us to bring Cornish Tiger to life.”

Cornish Tiger is open Tuesday to Friday 5pm to 11pm, Saturday 9am to 11pm and Sunday 9am to 6pm. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
