Rooms at Tommyfield & The Latchmere

The Latchmere, London

Renaissance Pubs is an award-winning collection of seven small pubs based around South London.

Run by locals Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox the chain offers a variety of traditional ales, an innovative menu and in the case of The Tommyfield, a very enjoyable stay. The Latchmere and The Tommyfield are two of the collection which have recently been developed and unveiled to the public in the city.

Located in the heart of Kennington, The Tommyfield has seen many bold modifications during the seven week refurbishment period; which has now been finalised and opened in June this year to guests. With BGW as the main contractors, six bedrooms were refurbished above an existing site, to form a set of exquisite guestrooms, which have all been embellished with several pieces of colourful art throughout the building. With HD televisions, luxuriously large beds and free internet access, a stay at The Tommyfield is a truly enjoyable experience.

From a design perspective, the biggest challenge that arose during the renovation was trying to ensure the bathroom space was utilised efficiently, in order to fit a well sized shower and double sink units into a relatively small space. During a recent launch party the pub guesthouse saw a vast amount of visitors flock to the venue and the feedback received following the event has been very positive.

Tom Peake, Director of Renaissance Pubs said:

The feedback from guests has been fantastic. We made a decision to take things a little slower rather than working alongside hotel websites that take a large amount of commission from online bookings. It is very exciting at the moment, word is spreading and we’re getting a lot of interest from business people around London.”

The Latchmere, London

The Latchmere is another Renaissance project that has recently been opened. The project began on site during May 2014 and is now complete and open; the launch party took place on the 4th June. Previously an old Victorian pub the building was in desperate need of an update so Renaissance secured a contract with BGW contractors in order to reconfigure the venue.

Tom Peake and Adam Ellis Ltd worked together on the design of the venue and planned to retain as much of the original structure as possible, and present the public house in and authentic manner. The venue displays the structures magnificence and heritage through its high ceilings and grand windows. Adam Ellis implemented the fixtures and fittings, mirrors and artwork, as well as dressing the space.

Adam Ellis, Managing Director of Adam Ellis Ltd, said:

For me it is always tremendous to have the opportunity to work on such a distinctive landmark site as The Latchmere. It was great to have the chance to delve into the history of the space and create something interesting and authentic, so it was a very exciting project.”

The pub has some particularly striking design elements including a large upscale mirror that sits upon the chimney breast. Green-blue tiling has been incorporated into the bar area to create an atmosphere and an innovative panel wall has been dressed in artwork, again acting as a feature of the space.

The Latchmere, London

Directly above The Latchmere is a local theatre; from a marketing perspective the theatre works very well as it promotes the location of the pub restaurant. Customers are able to dine or have a few drinks prior to, or after, watching a show at the theatre with no hassle.

Tom Peake added:

The Latchmere was so exciting to work on because it is a pub I have known my entire life, with a high profile in South London. It was a popular pub around 15 years ago and as time went on watching the pub become less popular and successful we just had to get our hands on it. It is our seventh pub and Nick, Mark and I have had a short term aim of seven pubs and so it’s very exciting to hit that number.”
