Located in Cardiff, South Wales, Maddison is a multi-functional bar and diner with an associated nightclub, DC.
The dual venue – owned by Wallstead Ltd – opened in late 2013 and provides guests with a vibrant and comfortable night out with great food and drink.
Maddison includes a pre-drinks space, a main dining area complete with booth seating and large dance floor and is accompanied by DC a dedicated night spot. When it opened last year the venue promised to showcase the best that South Wales has to offer and has so far delivered.
Design Management Partnership was the design practice responsible for bringing Maddison and DC to fruition. Speaking to Premier Hospitality about their involvement with the venue, Design Management Partnership Company Director, Andrew Skinner, said:
“The client was new to us. They are Cardiff based so had seen some of the work that we had previously completed and were keen to use a local design practice.”
Design Management Partnership is a team of chartered architects, interior designers, technical and project managers, working on a variety of schemes within the healthcare, commercial & industrial and leisure & hospitality sectors. Based in South Wales, the company works on projects throughout the UK, from small refurbishment works to multi-million pound new build schemes.
Discussing the brief for the venue, Andrew said:
“The brief was to create a contemporary restaurant and nightclub with a sort of London club-type feel and was designed to operate throughout the day. Guests can dine and dance should they wish, however they can just as easily enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning with breakfast or come to Maddison for afternoon tea.”
Design Management Partnership worked with local contractor Westgate Building Services who was appointed the principal contractor on the project. Work began on Maddison & DC in September 2013 and reached completion in November.
Prior to its transformation the site previously housed a nightclub which had been closed down for some time. Before any work was conducted on creating the new venue Westgate Building Services stripped back the site, taking it back to its shell. Work ran smoothly on the project with no major challenges occurring along the way.
Maddison is accompanied by DC, a 2000 capacity destination nightclub boasting three dedicated areas for music and entertainment. The state-of-the-art club includes 3D projection systems, CO₂ & confetti canons and high tech lighting and audio equipment.
Although work was completed on the project in 2013 a set of sliding doors is to be added to the venue shortly. Andrew commented:
“As Maddison was set to open in November this particular aspect of the project wasn’t undertaken at the time. Work will now take place on this during the summer.”
Since opening, Maddison & DC has impressed countless guests, already making a name for itself in South Wales as a true destination hot spot for locals and those visiting the area. The venue has also caught the attention of the hospitality industry and is amongst those shortlisted at this year’s Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, within the category of Best Standalone Bar or Club.
“It is always very important to be recognised by our peers and should we go on to win an award in this category then it equips us with something to highlight to future clients.”
Moving forward Design Management Partnership is set to work with Wallstead Ltd on new venues which it currently has in the pipeline.
