Iconic

Icon nightclub, Limerick, Ireland

Icon Nightclub has undergone a three week renovation process to re-establish itself as Ireland’s leading entertainment venue.

The popular night club, located at the Market Quarter of Limerick, has been redesigned by Chris McCreedy Design, specialists in bar, restaurant and nightclub design projects. The objective of the scheme was to create a theatrical and atmospheric lighting scheme whilst maintaining the fun and vibrant vibe associated with the long standing club.

Icon nightclub opened as a re-established nightclub in November and has since been a roaring success with the public. Situated above Smyths Bar, the venue holds an event seven nights of the week, and allows customers of Smyths bar in at no additional cost. Events have proven to be a hit with customers, allowing the venue to live up to its hopes of being the leading entertainment venue in the area.

A spokesperson for Icon, said:

“Experience the essence of enjoyment in the cool contemporary surroundings offered by Icon. The club is sprawled out over two levels with two dance floors and five separate bars. Designed to be a haven for club lovers, Icon has it all and then some.

“Experience an exhilarating atmosphere like no other created by the collaboration of our house DJs. Our DJs play the best mixes of current chart sounds and club classics. Cool off in the alcoves of Icon. Sip on a cocktail from our select range while socializing in fun and friendly surroundings.”

Chris McCreedy Design was the expert design practice charged with transforming Icon into a true icon of the night. The company’s aim is to elevate a client’s business through the power of fantastic design. All work is in or around the world of hospitality, which means the company has the experience and expertise to know exactly what performs visually in F&B design and how to generate the maximum financial return. Chris McCreedy Design is not about the mundane, the safe; Chris McCreedy Design specialise in creating spaces that are remarkable, extraordinary, but above all, spaces that work.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about Icon, Chris McCreedy, Managing Director of Chris McCreedy Design, said:

“We have created a dynamic space with cutting edge lighting and technology; a living, breathing space which pulsates and changes in full synchronisation with the music and atmosphere.”

Chris McCreedy Design have placed emphasis on top of the range LED lighting. Chris used sub-contractors Smart LED Concepts – specialists in LED light installation – to install the various lighting used in the redevelopment of Icon. The nightclub boasts over 1000 meters of LED lighting and over 800 3D LED light tubes to form a visual masterpiece on the main ceiling area. In addition, a clever use of light zoning has been introduced to identify key areas; soft and subtle lighting creates an intimate feel around seating areas, whilst a more vibrant and dynamic lighting system has been used around the dance floor and bar areas, subconsciously defining each space.

Another important part of the design brief was to incorporate high end alcoholic branding throughout the space with an innovative and custom design. Chris McCreedy Design created custom backdrop to the bespoke Heineken bar featuring over 1000 fully illuminated green Heineken bottles, all of which were individually hand cut and fitted within the 3 week timescale.

Icon entered the early stages of the Restaurant and Bar Design awards.

Chris McCreedy added:

“It was really important for Icon to be entered for our design work; I’ve been in the industry for eight years but Chris McCreedy Design is a fairly new company. We’ve only been established for two years so to get recognition early on is a great boost for us.”
