Serving up lazy lunches, decadent dinners and succulent shellfish to the heart of Truro, Hooked in the City is a vibrant, exciting and established restaurant with an open-plan restaurant and kitchen.
Hooked in the City has an energetic and unique feel and reached the early nomination stages of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Hooked believe in flexibility, with an ever changing menu using locally sourced ingredients. Whatever the occasion, a light lunch, a bite after work or a few courses in the evening, Hooked can cater for all, with the addition of a pre-theatre set menu, ideal for those on a tight schedule.
Hooked’s award winning kitchen focuses on classic dishes with an occasional modern twist. Hooked also stand by the idea that a contemporary edge isn’t always necessary, and that simple food is often the best; especially when it’s fresh, Cornish and in the hands of the talented chefs which Hooked in the City is proudly home to. A small but passionate team makes up the restaurant staff, their positive energy and love for food has contributed to Hooked in the City quickly becoming one of the top seafood restaurants in Cornwall.
Redevelopment of the restaurant, previously award winning AA rosette restaurant Indaba Fish, took place in Spring of last year, with the help of Absolute; an award winning, Truro based graphics and interior design company boasting relationships with JD Wetherspoon, Pizza Express and Jamie Oliver. The restaurant changed its name, changed its look but kept its people pleasing menu.
The menu consists of Lunch and Evening meals, as well as Wines. Lunch offerings consist of tapas and a seafood collection, with vegetarian options available; halloumi and red pepper skewers merge with crab bisque and anchovies, whilst scallops, crab and clam tagliatelle and hake are also offered on the main menu.
The evening meal menu boasts a more extensive tapas menu, with delicious additions of oyster and squid. The main menu has additional offers of sharing platters and lobster of various sizes, surf ‘n’ turf, seafood goan curry and tarte tatin. Of course, a classic fish and chips option is also available.
Wine is available in a 125ml serving, 250ml serving and is additionally sold by the bottle. An ideal accompaniment for seafood dishes, the menu presents a large selection of white wines whilst still allowing those with a different taste to enjoy the evening with a red wine or rose, champagne or sparkling beverages.
A spokesperson for Hooked in the city said:
“We pride ourselves in using the very best of the West Country and support the sustainability of fish.”
Hooked is available to hire for any parties or private events, giving guests reign of the top floor dining space, private bar area and the beautiful balcony overlooking the city’s rooftops across to Truro Cathedral. Chefs create a bespoke menu for parties making it personal and intimate whatever the size. Be it a birthday to remember, a family celebration, or an office party, the top floor dining room is just the right size for a get together with good friends. Hooked can accommodate for parties of up to 30, and can cater for any occasion; be it champagne and canapés, a two-course meal, or an extravagant banquet.
Placing the spotlight on interiors, the venue is home to an easy on the eye, modern interior in keeping with the menu and the area of Truro. The walls are made up by a contrast of reclaimed wood and seaside tiles in a blue and white pattern, with the addition of exposed brickwork and chalk boards, giving the room an urban, chic feel. The restaurant has a mixture of booths and long tables, surrounded by yellow and blue leather upholstery.
Hooked in the city is a loft style conversion, with an exposed ceiling showing off hanging pendant lighting and wooden beams laced with brown rope, taking the feel of the restaurant from the city to the seaside, in true Hooked style. Absolute added subtle nods to the menu in the interior, with metal fish motifs on the wall, wooden letters spelling out sea food and hanging wooden blocks spelling tapas.
Creative Director Helen Stephens for the award winning architects, Absolute said:
“Working on a project right on our doorstep was great. We new the existing restaurant and really understood the clientele and vision of the owners. They really trusted us on the new name and the complete look. The design worked seamlessly. Our own shopfitting team turned the project around on budget in 5 days! A great team effort.”
Absolute believe that building relationships with clients is of utmost importance, working a little harder to create something even better than their expectations is something the company prides itself in. Absolute listen to clients and rather than imposing outcomes, they suggest options and believe that clients will listen to ideas once they are considered business partners in a joint endeavour; something which the company understand doesn’t happen over night. They live and learn that a working relationship isn’t a status achieved by only understanding design; you need to understand people too.
“The business is growing nationally and so is our reputation. We’re looking at new sectors, expanding our team to continue to create exciting and innovative solutions which are effective for our clients business.”
Hooked at Truro, otherwise known as Hooked in the City, is paired with Cornwall’s seaside branch, Hooked on the Rocks; situated directly on the beach of the well known and loved town of Falmouth.
