Situated on Minnis Bay, in the seaside village of Birchington, Kent, The Minnis Bar and Restaurant has recently undergone a redevelopment process on the first floor, turning the old, under-used function room into a ‘taste of the Mediterranean’ dining experience.

The upstairs of Minnis opened in May, and offers tapas and meze dishes, delivering Mediterranean dishes to the English coast. The ground floor, which was built in 1934, acts as a traditional restaurant area. The downstairs area has Restaurant seating for 70 covers, along with seating in the bar for a further 30 covers. Upstairs, ‘The Taste of the Med’ area seats 50 covers, the restaurant has additional seating for up to 300 covers at any one time.

Jason Freedman, Owner and Chef of The Minnis Bar and Restaurant said:

“The upstairs area wasn’t previously used for anything other than private parties so we wanted to do something with the space. We already had the utilities being paid, the staff and the product so we just went for it. We spent a few weeks redecorating and putting in new furniture; all of the works were done by ourselves, and then we opened it to the public in May.”

He added:

“The village used to be a retirement area, but is becoming more and more popular with younger generations. There are a lot of people moving here from London, because of the house prices in central London and the short commuting distance.”

The Minnis Bar and Restaurant offers a menu suitable to all appetites and dietary requirements. The main restaurant menu delivers the option of three courses. For starters, an array of seafood, as well as olive and tomato tart, meat dishes and a soup of the day. For main course, the restaurant menu offers an equally appetising selection of seafood and meat dishes with the addition of a separate vegetarian menu consisting of risotto and a wild mushroom and roasted shallot wellington.

The dessert menu is worth saving room for, with an exceptional array of locally sourced produce making several delicious dessert options. For those who can’t choose, the restaurant offers a platter of miniatures ‘The Minnis Platter’ as well as ice cream or sorbet options and a Kentish Cheeseboard.

“The Minnis Bar & Restaurant is a wedding venue for all seasons with fabulous wedding packages available all year round. The packages include fixed price, late availability, midweek, spring, Easter, Valentines, Summer BBQ’s, Autumn, Winter and Christmas. There is a package for everybody`s preference and budget consideration.”

The vehicle can also be used as a photo booth or film backdrop. Choices of pre-designed menus are available or they can be created especially according to individual preferences and budgets.

The Minnis Bar and Restaurant has a licenced restaurant and bar area serving the house menu, a money saving option serving up two courses for £15 or three for £20, serves soup of the day, prawn cocktail or duck to start, followed by a mix of pasta, wellington, and fruit fed pork, followed again by chocolate mousse, ice creams, sorbets or lemon posset.
