Established in 1853, Henry McLaughlin and William Harvey set up the business as builders and contractors in Belfast. Henry McLaughlin was a journeyman mason who teamed his practical skill with a passionate desire for technical knowledge of his craft, satisfied by the copious studying that he carried out. Henry was then occupied by James Carlisle, contractor for the Courthouse in Belfast; where he worked alongside William Harvey who was the foreman carpenter on the development. From this point the co-workers befriended one another and the business opportunity rose and developed into McLaughlin & Harvey.

Over the period of their company operation, McLaughlin & Harvey has acquired an impressive reputation for their premium services in the construction trade. The business undertakes a variety of projects including refurbishment work, civil engineering and property investment and delivery. In order to maintain their reputation, M & H always carry out detailed and cautious planning, ensure a high performance, and always adhere to programme schedules and quality finishes.

During 2013 alone, the firm were awarded an impressive 17 awards reinforcing their impressive abilities and commendable performance. At the Northern Ireland Environmental Agency Sustainable Ireland Awards 2013, McLaughlin & Harvey were awarded the Energy Efficient Award, again showing their dedication to environmental protection and sustainability. Another award that they obtained was for the Construction Employers Federation (CEF) Construction Excellence 2013, the Infrastructure Transport Award for Ballymoney Railway Station Footbridge.

McLaughlin & Harvey has produced numerous landmark buildings throughout Great Britain and Ireland, offering full construction service including design and build, civil engineering and facilities management. The company operates several divisions to serve specialist requests such as building construction, fit-out, civil engineering, offshore, energy, facilities management and small works, frameworks and specialist joinery.

St Columbia’s High School is one project undertaken within the education sector, comprising of a 77-week process with an impressive value of £11,561,000. Contributing to the leisure sector, Roe Valley Country Park Visitor Centre was successfully completed and stands as an architecturally beautiful development with a value of £756,000. McLaughlin & Harvey have also taken part in numerous retail and residential projects.
