Silk & Grain is a restaurant and bar specialising in aged cocktails and British steak cuts.
The restaurant is operated by Glendola Leisure Group, is located on Cornhill, London and is just two minutes’ walk from Bank underground station.
Split over two levels, the first floor restaurant seats 56 and serves up a selection of dry-aged steak cuts, cooked in a Josper Grill, alongside British-inspired main courses such as lemon sole with garlic and caper butter; and heritage tomato, mint and quinoa salad with whipped goat’s cheese and beetroot pickled eggs. A range of homemade sauces, infused butters and grain mustards are also available, with starters from £6, mains from £12 and desserts from £5.
Glendola Leisure Group Managing Director, Alexander Salussolia, said:

Surface-id is an interior design practice specialising in interior design works for restaurants, night clubs, bars and hotels. The practice was appointed as the interior designer on the project working alongside main contractor Phelan Construction.
Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the project, Claire Kinna of Surface-id, said:
“We were involved with the project for around nine months, but the construction period itself was just two months, so it was quite a tight programme of works. There was a lot happening in a very short space of time and there were of course the usual challenges that always present themselves when working in the city, but everything ran smoothly.”
A highlight of Silk & Grain is the venue’s great selection of cocktails which have been given new depth by ageing spirits in different materials including oak barrels, metal, leather and glass before mixing and muddling. The result is a collection of mature drinks with added complexity and flavour. The cocktails are an intrinsic aspect of Silk & Grain’s offering and brought inspiration to the venue’s design.
Claire said:
“When coming up with the right design we knew we didn’t want to alienate any of the lunchtime dinners, but at the same time we wanted to attract more night time customers. We looked at altering the structure in order to open up the building and then we looked at the venue’s offering of barrel aged cocktails and the setting of the city for the remainder of the design. A particular design highlight is a large stag made from pennies which sits within the window. The design is contemporary, yet comfortable and relaxed.”
Since opening its doors Silk & Grain has been well received by its customers and has proved a worthwhile project for Surface-id to be involved with.
