This years annual NHBC Health & Safety Awards ceremony unfolded in June, held in Birmingham.

The NHBC Health & Safety Awards is the UK’s exclusive awards scheme for those in the home building sector, recognising achievement and rewarding success.

One of this year’s winners was Jason Clarke, Site Manager of Bovis Homes, who was presented with an award for completing phase three of a housing project with the effective compliance of health and safety management. Holmes Meadow located in Selby was the site that won the award, with a current total of circa 150 units.

However as the housing scheme is not yet complete, the unit total is set to be finalised at 300+ units in the future. The project involved a traditional brick and block, with a few other development areas such as external cladding. The units at Holmes Meadow range from one-bedroom apartments to two-bedroom terrace, to three-bedroom semi-detached; and four and five-bedroom detached houses.

Premier Construction caught up with Jason Clarke, to speak to him about the housing site and the NHBC award. He said:

“The project has been running since 2011 but we only started on the project in June 2013 at phase three, this is what I won the award for. We are looking toward the project finalising in three to four years as there is still approximately another 200 units left to be assembled.”

A mixture of private and social housing, Holmes Meadow offers a varied arrangement of garden areas. Some units are complimented with both front and rear gardens; however those in a block with back-to-back two-bedroom houses are presented with just a front garden. These units are structured like the traditional terrace house used to be to save space and keep things practical. Apartments of course have the open public spaces for all to utilise.

As the first time that Jason Clarke of Bovis Homes has won an NHBC Health & Safety award, it was a great mark of recognition, and an achievement that the company will always be able to refer to in order to boost their business repertoire.

When questioned how important it was to receive the award, Jason Clarke replied:

“This award is very important to us as we know that health and safety is paramount, everything follows high standards of health and safety. Everyone needs to be safe and feel safe within the working environment, and quality service and product follows this.”
