Palm Winds, Isle of Man, NHBC Awards

A Hartford Homes project to construct five luxury detached properties in the Isle of Man has now completed.

Such was the scheme’s success that it has won a Pride in the Job Award from this year’s NHBC Awards in recognition of its great design and efficient construction process.

The project began on site in May 2013 and completed at the end of July. Palm Winds, as the site has been named, comprises five traditional, timber framed houses complete with a limestone cladding and cedar on various elevations.

Previously the site used to hold a large property with an expansive garden, however due to the house having been erected in the 1960s it had become extremely dilapidated. Hartford Homes therefore saw an opportunity to utilise the land and in May last year began digging the foundations. The firm used their in house construction team and architect; George Lee who were integral to the project’s smooth progression.

Chris Corkill, Site Manager at Hartford Homes, said:

“We have sold all of the properties off plan and so the house owners have been able to have an input in how they wanted the interior design of their property. This is a technique we haven’t tried before but it went well. The houses were originally meant to contain five bedrooms but some owners opted to keep their properties as four beds in order to utilise the space differently.

“Some buyers chose to forfeit a bedroom in order to have a grand entrance hall.”

Downstairs the luxury homes have eight foot high doors and nine foot high ceilings which utilises the space, making each room feel grand and elegant. All of the properties have en suites which are fully tiled and boast top of the range sanitary ware; indeed all of the houses comprise modern and contemporary furnishings.

All of the properties also have under floor gas heating on the ground floor meaning that the property’s natural charm is not obscured.

With regard to winning the Pride in the Job Award, Chris added:

“It means an awful lot. The NHBC have been going on the Isle of Man for 13 years and the projects involved have come on leaps and bounds. Winning this award is definitely a feather in Hartford Homes’ cap.

“Hartford always let their staff see the developments through and so I was able to see the Palm Winds project through from start to finish, which was great. It was really rewarding to hand over the keys to the new house owners at the end of the project.”

The site is located in a picturesque, coastal location in the North of the Island and has great access routes to Ramsey. The location has a rural feel but is close to all the amenities of Ramsey; with the Airport just 40 minutes away and Douglas 25 minutes away. Overlooking Ramsey Bay the properties have been designed to make the most of the stunning views.
