Joseph Perks & Co, situated on Cowley Road in Oxford town centre, has recently opened offering locals a variety of delicious beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, as well as a selection of Big Apple hotdogs for those feeling a bit peckish.
The bar-come-coffee-shop was officially unveiled on the 18th August by The Cocktail Service.
The Cocktail Service Directors; Nick Ford, Tom Bronock and Casey Small, have a combined background of bar management, bar design and outside events and so spotted potential in the former Duke of Edinburgh pub. The newly renovated venue is based upon the story of Joseph Perks, a renowned cocktail barman from the 1970’s, who went travelling around the world before planning to open his own bar in London. Apparently Joseph got as far as El Piro in Panama and was never seen again.
This bizarre tale acts as the backdrop of the venue which has been completely stripped out and revamped. During the strip out process decorative tiling has been uncovered, as has a lovely brick fireplace that has been given a new lease of life. The venue boasts decadent oak flooring, a long steel bar, light boxes, fairground style lighting, as well as wall lamps sourced from Japanese war ships.
The venue also contains large tables and comfy seating situated near accessible plug sockets so that visitors to Joseph Perks can utilise the free Wi-Fi on their own laptops and Smart devices. Towards the back of the building the venue contains a more relaxed space complete with sofas and a piano, as well as an area for live music. The venue also boasts its very own small enclosed garden area.
Joseph Perks also comprises a large private room available to hire situated just off the main bar. The room has been decorated with an enormous world map, studded with pushpins as to where the mysterious Joe Perks has been spotted.
The venue is open until 12 midnight from Sunday through to Thursday and closes at 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue is ideal for groups, especially with the private spaces available to hire out, as well as being the perfect spot for a lone coffee or an intimate couples date.
