Situated in the vibrant and bustling city of Edinburgh, a cultural new street food eatery named Saiko Kitchen has been unveiled to the public.

Work began on creating the venue in July, and the restaurant opened its doors at the end of August, offering pan Asian food to customers, a delicious offering of Asian street food.

The menu started off quite simple, tailored to suit the tastes of what people are enjoying with Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese dishes. The food is being marketed as fast food; however dishes are being made from scratch with fresh ingredients and never frozen foods. Items available on the menu include dim sum to katsu curry, offering lesser known items that some may have only experienced on visiting Asia.

Premier Hospitality spoke to Director of Turret Developments, Donald Macleod to find out a little about the project. He said:

“Our client approached our company once the decision was made to develop a street food business, influenced by travelling. We then provided the design perspective by putting together a mood board, and then specification and manufacturing commenced.”

“The services that we delivered included fitting new heating, electrical, joinery and decoration works as well as sourcing all of the natural product materials such as oak and bamboo to add to the cultural vibe. Our client was delighted with our work.”

The interior of Saiko Kitchen integrates Amtico flooring in the main restaurant with a bamboo faced counter to tie in the Asian theme. Working in the back of house, Turret Developments fitted a brand new kitchen with all the latest catering equipment and essentials. The area itself was all decked out with hygiene wall and Altro safety flooring, creating a sophisticated cooking environment for the clients. The company also refurbished the existing shop front and have also been involved with the signage of the store.

Turret Developments have delivered a quality service ensuring that they listened carefully to the requirements for Saiko Kitchen in order to achieve exactly what the client wanted for their business. This alongside their experience and the company’s skills set has allowed them to create and produce a successful site.

Donald commented:

“The project ran very well and we didn’t encounter any issues. Our own experiences have helped us to understand how to work things and we know how important it is to get a very clear vision of what the client wants. We sourced all the materials to convey the Asian theme, brought it all together and as a result our clients seemed very pleased, which is what we aim to do.”

When asked about how important the project was to the company, Donald replied:

“The project was a relatively small project however still as important as any other, and this was demonstrated by how we’ve moved forward with it. Predominantly we’ve been undertaking larger scale fit-outs but now we are being given more opportunities with these types of projects similar to Saiko Kitchen, so this has opened up other prospects for our business.”
