Mondrian London at Sea Containers – the first ever Mondrian branded boutique hotel outside the US – has opened its doors.

Designed by Design Research Studio under the creative direction of Tom Dixon and operated by Morgans Hotel Group, Mondrian London launched on 30th September 2014 and houses a restaurant and a seasonal cocktail bar.

Sea Containers is the hotel’s stunning new restaurant, overseen by New York chef Seamus Mullen, whilst the Dandelyan cocktail is spearheaded by Ryan Chetiyawardana, better known in the industry as Mr. Lyan the owner of White Lyan.

Sea Containers takes its name from the landmark building on London’s South Bank and sits on the ground floor of Mondrian London. Features of the restaurant include two private dining rooms, a US-style bar which sits in the middle of the room, an open kitchen and a visible wood fire oven.

The restaurant serves up fresh, seasonal cuisine, which is sustainable, carefully sourced and expertly prepared. Dishes include house-made ricotta with sugar snap peas & leaves, chillies, mint and grilled country bread; Crudo of wild salmon with fennel & dill yoghurt, golden shallots and fennel pollen; and shaved mushroom salad with toasted pine nuts, idiazàbal cheese and brown butter vinaigrette.

Sea Containers Culinary Director, Seamus Mullen, said:

“I’m so thrilled and honoured to bring my cooking from New York to London, a city that I love. Sea Containers draws from the age old Anglo-American, transatlantic relationship, integrating the rich history of trade and giving me a chance to cook the food I love to eat with the impeccable ingredients of Britain. The food is wholly product driven with a strong emphasis on seasonality and provenance of ingredients; delicate, fresh and nourishing. Tom Dixon has done a beautiful job of creating a space that is at once both new and familiar, and my intention is to create a menu that reflects that same sensibility.”

Dandelyan, meanwhile, is a rich yet intimate bar located on the ground floor of Mondrian London. A grand, green marble bar, brushed with gold and brass accents, runs the length of Dandelyan, whilst its location within the hotel provides guests with fabulous views of the River Thames.

The bar menu at Dandelyan was created by the team from Sea Containers and focuses on light snacks, including blistered Padron peppers with smoked sea salt; and Borough Market’s vegetable crudité with grilled spring onion dressing. The drinks menu makes use of carefully sourced fruits, vegetables and fresh herbs, combined with modern tools and proprietary techniques to elevate classic drinks and re-imagine flavour combinations.

Ryan Chetiyawardana, said:

“Continuing the story from White Lyan, Dandelyan at Mondrian London is focused on re-evaluating the traditional bar set up to elevate familiar and proprietary cocktails to new levels.”

Sea Containers is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, with brunch served at weekends. Dandelyan is open 4pm to 2am Monday to Thursday; and 12pm to 2am Friday to Sunday.
