Agropharm

A project designed to increase facilities at Agropharm Ltd’s production centre continues to make great progress.

The project comprises the creation of a new production building along with associated works. Work began on the project in March 2014, with the old facilities disconnected from services. Groundwork’s and the demolition of these units was undertaken in May. At present the project is scheduled to reach completion in March 2015.

Speaking to Premier Construction about the project, Agropharm Ltd Deputy Plant Manager, David Philpott, said:

“Initially we wanted to introduce a production line within an existing building. After working through this idea for a couple of months we realised it was impractical, so we came to the conclusion that we would need to do something different. The project just grew from there, boiler upgrades, heating system renovations, car parking, new tank bund and roads were added to get maximum benefit out of the investment. In effect we have developed almost a third of the site.”

JG Woodcock Construction was the main contractor on the project, whilst AP Architecture and Geomitre have provided all architectural services on the scheme.

Work is well underway on the project and is running as planned. The new road is 125 meters long and once complete this should help improve safety and efficiency at the plant, as well as providing the first part of a new one way system.

Established in 1974, Agropharm Ltd is an award winning company which produces eco-friendly pest control products which have a minimal impact on the environment. The company’s success is based on a genuine interest in listening to customers’ needs and developing innovative products.

Agropharm Ltd develops and manufactures its own products in Telford, so the project is of great importance to the company. Commenting on the scheme, David said:

“This project helps improve our flexibility and will reduce waste. With the new facility in operation we will be able to achieve a lot more than what we would have achieved on the old plant, meaning we can improve efficiency greatly.”

Once work is complete on the project, Agropharm Ltd is expected to take on at least four new members of staff to operate the new facilities. Potential staff positions are expected to include two new line operators, a supervisor and a technical assistant.
