The construction of a mixed use hospitality and residential development by privately owned property company THAT Group is progressing well.

The development, which is located in the centre of Bournemouth, upon completion will comprise a core branded Hilton Hotel, a smaller second hotel, 60 apartments and underground parking space.

The site, named Terrace Mount, used to be a disused car park prior to THAT Group purchasing the land and procuring planning permission. Works on site began in September 2014 and the development is expected to complete in the summer of 2015.

We caught up with Peter Tisdale, THAT Group’s Property Manager, to find out more about the scheme. He commented:

“This is a hugely significant development for THAT Group; under our present guise it is our first major development and we haven’t started with a small project. This involves upgrading a large area within the town centre and it hasn’t been easy to fund so it has taken a long time to get everything right. We feel this is going to set a precedent for THAT Group and will act as a signature for the company for everything we do in the future.”

So far extensive ground works have been undertaken on site. Upon completion the sites main core branded Hilton hotel will comprise a 12 storey tower, café, bar, restaurant, lounge, executive club, business centre, large conference room, associated spill out space for functions and weddings, as well as an impressive top floor sky bar offering views across Bournemouth.

The hotel will also contain 180 bedrooms including presidential suites and executive rooms. The Terrace Mount site will also be home to 15 luxury penthouse apartments which are to be constructed within the main body of the Hilton Hotel. Another 45 apartments will also lie in Block C at the back of the development away from the main road. All units have underground parking.

THAT Group is a privately owned property company specialising in urban regeneration. The company develops mixed use sites, transforming Brownfield, town centre and under utilised land with a leisure and hospitality focus. The firm has offices in London’s King’s Cross and they are principally funded by the founder of Ted Baker, Ray Kelvin.

Peter Tisdale added:

“Since we started works we have seen more developers come into the town and develop sites. I am sure the other hotels in the area will see this as friendly competition and hopefully the whole market will improve in the locality.”

THAT Group are soon to start work on their next development; an impressive 135 bed hotel in Torquay harbour, with associated retail and A3 space. The team plan to begin works on this project by mid-2015.
