George’s Tradition is a family run fish & chip business with chip shops dotted throughout the Midlands.

The business began in 1967 with just one shop and has since grown to include ten takeaways, four restaurants and a pub.

Breaking with tradition but keen to keep delivering high quality fresh fish and chips they have recently expanded their business with another site in the Midlands – this time in their home city of Nottingham.

Situated on Queen Street, the restaurant opened at the end of 2014 and showcases some of the best fish and chips around, utilising 100% sustainable ocean wild cod and haddock, as well as 100% farm assured British potatoes.

Housed in a beautiful grade two listed building – formerly a men’s outfitters – work had to be carefully conducted being mindful of the heritage of the building and its structure.

Local company, DG Professional Interiors was responsible for the complete interior fit-out of the building including the ground & first floor restaurant and bar areas. The company worked very closely with local designers Philip Watts Design to deliver the project as it had been visualised.

DG Professional Interiors specialises in providing a highly reliable commercial interior fit-out service and has previously delivered projects in London for the likes of Ethos, Tom’s Kitchen St Katherine’s Dock and Lacoste stores in Regent Street and Knightsbridge. They have also completed a project closer to home for Candy Stripe in Leicester.

Working on George’s Fish and Chip Kitchen, DG Professional Interiors was responsible for a full package of works on the project, from the bespoke joinery, including bar and banquette seating , to specialist metal work. Services included the installation of the electrics and lighting, plumbing, wall and floor tiling and all decoration works.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the project, Helen Vara of DG Professional Interiors, said:

“As this project was conducted within a Grade II listed building there were a few planning and heritage restrictions, but we encountered no major challenges and everything ran as we had planned.

“The restaurant was completed to the exact requirements of the client and since opening, the feedback has been extremely positive – the client loved it.”

George’s Fish and Chip Kitchen, Nottingham has been expertly created with many finishing touches not seen in your everyday fish and chip restaurant and in keeping with the character of the building. A particular highlight is a series of stylish beach huts with booth seating overlooking the ground floor restaurant and bar areas, which provides the restaurant with a real sense of character.

Whilst the design of George’s Nottingham is spot on, the venue’s menu is also grabbing the attention of customers. The menu showcases a range of tasty offerings, from scotch eggs, homemade fish cakes, pies and mushy pea fritters through to more traditional fish and chips, as well as sweet treats including specialist ice creams, donuts and candy floss.

Commenting on DG Professional Interiors’ involvement on George’s Nottingham, Helen, said:

“This was an interesting project, with some fresh ideas, plus it was very exciting for us to be working in such a beautiful building.

“We’re a proud Nottingham-based company, so to do a project in our home city was simply fantastic for us.”
