Tapas Revolution, Shoreditch, London

Spanish chef Omar Allibhoy brings a taste of the real Spain to Shoreditch, with the opening of his third tapas bar, Tapas Revolution on Bethnal Green Road.

Omar’s latest tapas opening will continue the Spanish food mission that he and his team began with the critically acclaimed Tapas Revolution in Westfield London (Shepherd’s Bush), and Tapas Revolution in Bluewater (Kent).

Tapas Revolution Shoreditch will be Omar’s personal interpretation of the lively and bustling tapas bars in his hometown of Madrid. This contemporary Spanish tapas bar will be open for all-day dining and offer fresh, high quality tapas, using ingredients Omar has sourced from across Spain.

The new 60 – 70 cover venue has been created in what was initially a retail unit on the ground floor of a new residential block.

Main Contractors were DG Professional Interiors; Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors were CW Consulting and Interior Designers were Alexander Waterworth Interiors.

Sleek, stylish, contemporary and original are keynotes of the design.

Chris Wall of CW Consulting told Premier Hospitality:

“The Tapas Revolution concept is very much built around a large oval copper-topped feature bar with fixed stools which is the main focus as you enter. This is because many people eat tapas informally sitting at the bar. The restaurant is then designed around the bar, with the layout of the free-standing tables and chairs spinning off from that.

“We took over the unit in a shell and core state and carried out a comprehensive fit-out. This included complete new walls, ceilings and timber/tiled floor finishes, the installation of a stainless steel show kitchen which is open to the restaurant and bar and the installation of new back of house kitchen preparation and office areas and toilets.

“After starting with a very typical glass shopfront as you would expect of a retail unit, we over-clad this in sandblasted hardwood timber as the Designers wanted a more enclosed and warmer space rather than a ‘glass box’. The timber cladding also adds more of an authentic Spanish feel to the venue.

“The works also included the installation of full air conditioning and all other building services, subtle feature lighting and a large amount of architectural metalwork and joinery, together with wall tiles hand painted and made in Spain to give a very warm and Meditteranean feel to the Restaurant.

“Many of the finishes are bespoke, including the architectural metalwork, which includes a large number of ‘Crittal-Type’ metal screens. In order to achieve the contemporary, individual look that we wanted, the client chose Alexander Waterworth Interiors as they are a young, innovative design practice and could provide the creative vision which the Client required.

“The project, which was on site for just eight weeks, has gone very well. The Contractor is a very good shopfitting company who are known to the Client as they carried out the fit-out contracts at the Client’s other two Tapas Revolution venues.”

Omar Allibhoy comments on the opening of Tapas Revolution, Shoreditch:

“Shoreditch is a great location to open our third Tapas Revolution and first standalone site. It’s a great chance to further spread the word about tapas to a new audience and bring an authentic taste of Spain to Shoreditch.”
