Urban Villa-Great West Quarter, London

Boutique hotelier Urban Villa has opened their first property, in the Great West Quarter development in London.

The development, which is owned by Barratt Homes, combines the hotel experience with the convenience and comfort of luxurious residential living. The unique hotel contains 100 all-suite bedrooms within an iconic, glass-clad, cylindrical building off the Great West Road commuter lifeline.

The hotel, owned by NoHo Hospitality, is situated within minutes from Kew Gardens, Twickenham Stadium, Richmond Park, The Eventim Apollo, Westfield Mall, Heathrow Airport and Chiswick high street. The hotelier has created 100 cosy and spacious residences comprising a living room, kitchen and winter garden in the shape of a glass enclosed balcony to accommodate both the overnight guests and monthly visitors.

Premier Hospitality caught up with Konstantins Jegorovs, Project Manager from main contractor Paragon, to find out more about the scheme. Konstantins commented:

“We commenced on site late October 2014 and worked closely with Barratt Homes throughout the scheme. The Great Western Tower is a Barratt Homes site and so they partially fitted out the hotel rooms and we fitted out the rest – the main reception and the lower basement areas including gym, laundry room, toilets and admin space.

“We had to work closely with Barratts and the end users to make sure everyone was happy.”

Urban Villa is situated on the first ten floors of the Great West Tower with the rest of the tower containing high end residential properties. The ground floor and the basement were previously an empty shell and so Paragon worked tirelessly to transform the space into the luxury boutique hotel it now is.

Initially the team had to remove most of the plasterboard walls in the reception area, taking the walls back to their bare concrete base. These walls now acts as feature walls in the space, as do the three suspended rafts clad in cork and birch ply hanging directly from the main ceiling and the Dutch and Italian tiled floor.

All of the bedrooms also feature complimentary Malin + Goetz toiletries, Nespresso machines, plus 50” Samsung Smart TVs. The rooms vary in size ranging from 350 to 486 square feet which is a large size for a London hotel space. The hotel also offers 1GB super-fast wireless Internet to guests.

The furniture has been designed bespoke for the hotel by New York Architects Grwynski + Pons.  The artwork has been selected and provided by Lazarides Editions.

The hotel’s public areas include BOKI Coffee Co. which serves Allpress Coffee, T2 Tea, a rotating selection of seasonal craft beers, a broad range of freshly prepared healthy and organic meals. Sour Diesel, Urban Villa’s lobby bar, offers guests a chic environment to sample cocktails by Soulshakers mixologists, who are noted for their work with Meat Liquor, Glastonbury Festival and Quo Vadis.

Soul Diesel also serves a mouthwatering array of wines, spirits, and artisan aperitifs in a multi-functional indoor-outdoor space.

The bar’s wine cellar is equipped with a Coravin preservation system, meaning the entire wine list can be purchased by the glass. The private on site gym features Technogym equipment, free weights and other fitness essentials; spa treatments can also be enjoyed on site.

The surrounding neighbourhood contains London’s rightly famous Kew Gardens, the bohemian Chiswick, Gunnersbury Park, and Twickenham international rugby ground meaning guests are ideally positioned to enjoy the local surroundings. A short Tube journey from South Ealing will take you directly into the heart of the West End, and Brentford rail station, for Clapham Junction and Waterloo, is five minutes’ walk away.
