The Hunters

The Hunters in Preston is a fantastic public house boasting great food, an extensive array of drinks and of course, excellent hospitality.

The pub – formerly The Welcome Tavern – recently underwent a £500,000 refurbishment which has not only given the venue a complete makeover, but has also been well received by punters.

Situated on Hennel Lane, the new-look pub from Thwaites and Fayre Table provides the perfect setting for friends and families who want to unwind and catch up, boasting a great food menu and a stunning collection of cocktails and cask ales. In addition, The Hunters offers up pub favourites, such as a pool table and big screen TV’s showcasing live football matches.

Work began on refurbishing The Hunters in January 2015 and reached completion at the beginning of March, ahead of its official opening. As well as providing the pub with a new interior design, the project included the installation of a new extension – designed to increase the pub’s kitchen area – along with the removal of an existing set of toilets, to increase the venue’s trading space.

Ark Construction was the main contractor on the project, whilst Innex Design was the architectural design practice on the project. Innex Design is an architectural and interior design practice providing a range of services from planning, project management and surveying to cost management, energy assessments, interior design and landscape architecture. Innex Design has such a long-standing history of designing pubs and inns – the clue is in the company name – that they were the perfect practice to tackle this project.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality, Mark A Clancy, Associate Director for Innex Design, said:

“The biggest challenge on the project was providing a scheme that was different from the rest, whilst also providing social seating areas for families to enjoy their dining time.”

The transformation project has given the venue the correct amount of attention to detail it required, introducing neat little design touches which make a big difference to the overall look and feel of the pub. The external areas of the pub have not been forgotten either, with a focus towards the younger family members.

Mark said:

“Design highlights at The Hunters include the pallet panelling and the lighting, which is very quirky and has many different aspects to it. The whole hunter theme is implemented right through the scheme and the external area is great for the children to enjoy – I think children will love it. We have created a pub and dining environment.”

Whilst work took place on the project, the pub was closed to the public, ensuring a safe and speedy turnaround time for the refurbishment.

Discussing the importance of the project, Mark said:

“Working with Thwaites and Steven at Fayre Table was a very enjoyable experience and allowed us to spread our wings. Innex Design has always designed bars and restaurants with our hearts and not our egos and we believe the design is one of the best we have ever done.

“We wish The Hunters good luck for the future.”
