The company also delivers works in the marine, hospitality and transportation sectors, as well as renewables, water and wastewater.

A spokesperson for Farrans Construction, said:

“We continue to develop excellence in all aspects of building and civil engineering while at the same time the boundaries of service level delivered to our customers are continually being extended. At the heart of this approach is the recognition of our wider social responsibility. We share our workplace with communities and the natural environment making it vital that we implement sustainable business practices across our operation.

“The concepts of partnering, alternative forms of contract, value engineering, Public Private Partnerships and Performance Related Partnering have all been embraced by us and kept us at the forefront of innovation and modern construction techniques for over 70 years.

“Central to our operation is a commitment to the values of health and safety, quality and the environment. Our management systems are ISO accredited and our approach to responsible stewardship of industry best practice has been recognised through achievement of BS8900 Sustainable Development.”

Past projects for Farrans Construction have included the £22.4 million Belfast Streets Ahead regeneration project; the £21 million Harestanes Windfarm project; Coolkeeragh Power Station; and the Skainos project in East Belfast.

A more recent project is the Chelmsford Waste Transfer Station project, which comprised the construction of a new waste transfer station. The project included a municipal waste building, a dual weighbridge, an associated weighbridge kiosk, and an office and staff welfare building.

Throughout all its operations, Farrans Construction places health and safety at the forefront of its projects. As such the company has built up a fantastic reputation for delivering projects safely, whilst also taking into account its social responsibilities.

A spokesperson for Farrans Construction, said:

“We meet the health and safety challenge through personal commitment from the boardroom to the work site. Nothing we do is so important that we cannot do it safely and our people are educated and empowered to Consider Accidents and Recognise Everyone’s Safely (CARES).

“We work hard to raise awareness of the risks in our workplace and as part of this; we focus on recording hazards and near misses. This helps us understand what steps to take to make our workplace safer.

“We are aligned with a number of local agencies, mainly charities, to open up wellbeing initiatives to our workforce. These include education campaigns, regular health check-ups and access to support networks to deal with both illness and lifestyle related issues.

“Farrans’ reputation as a leading building and civil engineering contractor owes much to having a well-defined sense of our social responsibilities. We believe that being a responsible business means being honest about the consequences of our activities, minimising the negative impacts and maximising the positive opportunities. We also help develop local communities and advance our employees’ careers, placing a responsibility towards people at the very heart of what we do.”
