The BAR, from luxury retail giants Fortnum & Mason, has opened in Heathrow’s Terminal 5 offering travelers a new destination to enjoy the very finest food and delicious cocktails.

The relaxed venue is located right beside the newly opened Fortnum & Mason store and is open to everyone from first flight to last flight.
Designed by Universal Design Studio, who also created the Fortnum & Mason store that opened in Terminal 5 last autumn, the informal, stylish venue is set to lift airport eating and drinking to a new level.

Universal Design Studio comprises an international team of architects, headed by Directors Jason Holley and Hannah Carter-Owers. Universal specialises in retail, restaurant, hotel and workspaces, alongside museum and gallery commissions. Rich in creativity and intellectual rigour, Universal are experts in making striking environments; spaces capable of communicating multiple narratives, and creating lasting impressions, while keeping the Barber & Osgerby principles of attention to detail and innovation at the heart of their work.

The BAR offers a mouth watering selection of dishes with the emphasis firmly on the fresh produce from Fortnum’s own celebrated food halls.

Whatever diners choose they are sure to receive dishes of superb quality, served with Fortnum’s know-how. Pre-flight specialities include light meals, with a wide choice of shellfish, caviar, charcuterie, salads and delicious desserts.

The menu varies from crumpets to caviar, including shellfish, charcuterie, salads and desserts, all of which are light and so suitable for those embarking on a flight. Regular Fortnum’s foodies will be delighted to know that F&M’s famous Welsh Rarebit has been re-imagined as a toastie with tomato compote.

Travellers can also delight in a varied list of Champagnes, fine wines, cocktails, spirits, fresh juice and Fortnum’s famous coffee and tea. The drinks and dishes are served around a magnificent island bar, with waiting staff ready to serve travellers from all over the world.

The BAR comprises a stunning freestanding canopy structure which references English silverware and provides respite within the hectic airport. The canopy is self supporting and uses nickel plated steel.  Other materials include nickel, pressed ceramic tile, polished pewter, velvet, leather and glass – all of which are custom made.

The BAR looks set to continue Fortnum & Mason’s long tradition of providing a world of pleasure, where nothing is too much trouble, to those with a taste for travel.

The venue is positioned opposite the new Fortnum & Mason store which carries a selection of products from Fortnum’s flagship Piccadilly store, designed with the traveller in mind.

The BAR is Fortnum & Mason’s first airport bar; to mark the brands new addition F&M have launched an exclusive new tea, especially for the Terminal 5 traveller. Explorer’s Blend is an intrepid combination of flavours and styles from the four corners of the tea-producing world.

The new blend comprises high-grown, light and delicate Ceylon Orange Pekoe from Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka, with rich and heady tippy leaves from north-east India’s Assam Valley. The flavour journey is completed with jasmine-scented green tea from China.
