LNT Construction

Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, LNT Construction is a leading care home developer delivering turnkey care homes across the UK.

Each home built by LNT Construction is fully fitted and is completed to the highest levels of quality throughout.

Over the past 24 years, LNT Construction has built up a fantastic reputation within the industry for delivering works efficiently and on programme. The company regularly receives building excellence awards by Local Authorities and is always looking to the future with more and more projects on the horizon.

Keen to find out a little bit more about what makes LNT Construction tick, Premier Construction recently caught up with the company’s Managing Director, Christine Cooper to get the lowdown on the care home developer. Christine told us about the company’s latest development in Leeds as well as a couple of recent developments which have continued to demonstrate LNT Construction’s commitment to excellence.

LNT Construction

Christine said:

“We specialise in designing, building and commissioning care homes for older people. We have been operating since 1991, when our chairman Lawrence Tomlinson set up the company, and we have consistently delivered 600 care beds per year for at least the past eight years.

“We started working on projects in Yorkshire, before expanding to the North West, down the M1 into Nottinghamshire, along the M6 into Birmingham and then into the South East with sites in Peterborough, Dunstable, Huntingdon. We currently have planning applications in Halesowen and Lincoln and even as far south as Andover.

“Many of our care homes are operated by our sister company, Ideal Carehomes, which is part of the LNT Group, however we regularly build care homes for other companies.”

LNT’s most recent project is Theaker Lane, a 64-bed care home constructed on a former factory site in Leeds. The project reached completion in February 2015 and continues to operate as planned.

Christine said:

“Theaker Lane is a three-storey care home, with 64 en-suite bedrooms. The building includes quiet spaces such as lounges, for use by all the residents, and a garden space for residents to be able to go outside whenever they want to.”

As with all of LNT Construction’s buildings, the Theaker Lane care home utilises renewable resources including ground source heat pumps to heat the building, solar roof panels which help to heat the water, and LED lighting to reduce the amount of energy the building consumes. Such is the efficiency of the development the building not only meets all current targets of a structure of this type, it actually exceeds them.

Christine said:

“The building nestles into its surroundings very well and looks as if it has always been a part of the landscape, enhancing the area.”

Another project which was successfully delivered within a week of the Theaker Lane site was the Buckingham Lodge Care Home in Aylesbury. Similar to the Leeds-based care home, Buckingham Lodge Care Home is a three-storey, 64-bed care home boasting an array of high quality finishes.

Christine said:

“To date this is our most southern site and fits into a new development area in Aylesbury. We sailed through the planning stages with this site – which we sold to Anchor – and as with our other care home, Buckingham Lodge really finishes off the surrounding area quite nicely.

“Anchor is extremely pleased with the development and we are now on our second home for them, this time Clayburn Court in Peterborough.”

Christine added:

“The feedback that we have had from Anchor has been fantastic. We told Anchor, 11 months previously, that we would deliver their first care home on a specific date, and we did it as discussed.”

Current and future projects for LNT Construction include Maple Tree Court in Kidsgrove – which is due to reach completion in August 2015 – and London Road in Dunstable, which will arrive in Spring 2016. Maple Tree Court is a two-storey building comprising 64 bedrooms, whilst London Road is a three-storey building which will include 66 bedrooms.

Due to the temperamental weather conditions which the UK experienced during the first quarter of 2015, the Kidsgrove project had fallen behind schedule by two weeks, but that was something which Christine was not willing to let sabotage LNT’s construction programme.

Christine commented:

“When we do encounter problems we always work around them. The Kidsgrove project had fallen two weeks behind on our schedule, but we haven’t accepted that, so instead we looked at how we could alter our schedule in order to finish when we said we would.”

Maintaining momentum whilst ensuring high levels of quality is the true success of LNT Construction and it is something which the company will continue to strive for with all its future developments.

Christine said:

“At our peak we delivered 18 care homes in one year and the only real thing which is stopping us from reaching that peak again is finding suitable sites. We have the infrastructure and we are always looking for the right site.”

Christine added:

“Keeping up our pace is crucial and it is something which we take great pride in.”

“We have a great working relationship with LNT Construction and have been involved with around 70% of their projects since we first started working together. This relationship is extremely important to us.

“We provide low cost renewable heat so that each care home pays less for its heating and receives a 20 year RHI (Renewable Heat Inventive) tariff, the RHI more than covers the capital installation costs as it can provide thousands of pounds a year in return – very similar to the feed in tariff for solar PV. To date we have completed 13 care homes for LNT Construction.”

Dan added:

“At Q-Gen Renewable Heat we are very proud of our approach to customer service, as well as the quality of our work. We are able to guide customers through all the required aspects of heat installations, so that they are informed about everything needed for the job.”
