Milford Hall Hotel opened Lime Tree Spa in May this year offering hotel guests a tranquil haven to relax in during their stay.

The boutique hotel has transformed what used to be a former storage building into an intimate spa environment ideally designed for those wanting time out from their hectic lives.

Spa Creators, who specialise in supplying design and technical services to boutique hotels, acted as the main contractors and designers during this scheme after being approached by Milford Hall Hotel. The firm met with their future clients at the Independent Hotel Show Awards where they discussed plans to create a spa on site.

Premier Hospitality Magazine caught up with Alistair Johnson, Company Director at Spa Creators, to find out more:

“Milford Hall Hotel had already gained some outline planning permission to construct the spa and were struggling with the designs and so asked for our help. We began our design process in May last year and works started on site in September.

“We have doubled the size of the former storage building by adding an extension to the structure. We worked closely with the planners as they wanted to maintain the historic, brick building and so we built the extension sympathetically in line with their demands in order to retain its heritage value.”
Works were also undertaken on the two storey building to lower the ground floor level which involved excavating into the base of the building. This process was crucial as the team could only utilise the first floor space, located in the eves of the building, if the ground floor was effectively lowered.

The luxury spa now comprises three treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room, a thermal area, an outdoor vitality pool and a terraced area. Lime Tree Spa is contained within a quaint walled garden, housing the spa’s vitality pool, terraced area and an impressive lime tree.

The tree had a Tree Preservation Order and so the team had to ensure that the roots were not affected during the works on the exterior of the property.

Upon entering the spa guests will be greeted the main reception, a small lounge area and juice bar, as well as large bi-folding doors leading to the thermal room. The doors have been installed to allow guests in the sauna and steam room to enjoy stunning views of the garden.

The male and female changing rooms can be found on the ground floor, as can the fitness suite which has been equipped with the finest Matrix equipment. The structure comprised old, garage doors which now act as a main feature wall of the gym. The suite also comprises an impressive vaulted ceiling.

On the first floor the third treatment room is located alongside the manicure and pedicure area, and relaxation lounge.

Speaking to us about the interior design scheme of the venue Alistair explained:

“We worked closely with the clients to deliver the interior design scheme which focused on the sites lime tree. The scheme was contemporary boasting unique tree print wallpaper, which has been reused in the spa’s logo and signage.”

The venue comprises a feature murospective moulded feature panel wall leading from ground floor hallway to the changing areas. Throughout the space expensive glass mosaic tiles add a spark of colour to the spa, especially in the lime green steam room and stone cladded reception and sauna.

Exposed brickwork, Amtico flooring and vibrant splashes of colour also feature throughout the venue.

Alistair added:

“For us it is a very nice to work with this client; this small facility illustrates that beautiful spas can be created within small boutique hotels.”
